I feel like we are so desperately all in on Gruden and that Gruden is using that to get every penny from us.

for his asst coaches maybe...with the new TV deal it is not that big a deal.

all big-time schools wil have to up the ante after SEC Network money starts rolling in

Yup. Quite a few folks are having problems with this. It just doesn't seem right. This post on OuterMonvolia sums it up for me and makes a hell of a lot of sense here. I dunno where it originated from, but it is very interesting. Scroll down it's the longer post on there. I think it was C/P'd from another forum.

At any rate, just to sum up, I think the AD is controlling what's coming out and getting their media minions to squash the Memphis report last night. I think ESPN did the same thing with Mike and Mike's interview with Gruden. Either way, I think we'll know for certain by Friday. Past that I think our chances to land Gruden are slim to none, but I expected that anyway because they need to get a coach in fairly soon.

Just read the post you are referring to. Spot on IMO. The fact that they've had basically nothing for days and days now and all of the sudden they get the news of a cancelled meeting at the same time reeks of a controlled leak to Hyams and Hubbs from the AD.

It is not out pennies. It's not even the schools pennies. The boosters, by most accounts, have been running the show. Hopefully they pay up so Hart.and the fans don't take the fall for their wrecklessness.

That dude on yahoo sports radio (david nunoz?) just GRILLED ut and its fans for even thinking we "had" a chance with gruden. Basically he said the gruden is an nfl mastermind and would have no interest in college fb...recruiting high schoolers and going to hs games. Ofcourse, he's just a talking head with no sources on this, but someone mentioned earlier how the media has been laughing at us over this. pisses me off

Yea. I spoke to a buddy couple days ago who is sports reporter in Oregon area. Said basically same thing. Vibe out there is that we're as nutty as Arkansas and a Kirby smart or al golden is gonna be best we can do.

Let's hope it goes better than the PAC-10 TV deal, didn't they spend like 100 million over some years to get the local TV deal back?

Never seen you this down on Golden. Glad you see the light now.

Golden, like any coach, could turn out to be great (if hired, and I don't believe he will be). But take a look at the guy.. the ACC is WEAK. FSU and Clemson are the only nationally competitive teams, and Miami is a sludge muffin.

Golden just reeks of Dooley. He would be a 5 year project to be competing for SECCG's again.. and if it takes that long, the economic losses to UT could really be damaging. There's so many more negatives to Golden, other than "He A'int Gruden!!" He's not a practical choice.

You may have mistaken me for someone else. I have never wanted Golden.

Reminder this guy is big in his area but has ZERO UT info or insider knowledge (kind of like rucker) and is simply relaying what the people in that part of country are saying.

After the coaching circus we have been through we need some stability and somebody with integrity and a winning record to put a new face on UT. The fact that there are not any other reported interviews or any other leaks on other candidates could mean we already have a coach in negotiations. ( Gruden ) Please sweet baby Jesus!

He must not have heard Cowherd put UT in the top ten college coaching jobs in the country today. Even down.

The fact that profootballtalk has a (confirmed) meeting between us and Gruden happening tonight puts a bit more credence on this really being a possibility.

The Gruden to Ark talk was mostly rumors/speculation with little meat behind it, and was promptly immediately killed by the national media. Our situation is playing out a tad differently.

let's say Gruden's not coming. Other than "He's not Gruden", what are some of the negative issues with Butch Jones?

The dam was beginning to crack under Fulmer, it broke when Kiffin left, and Dooley opened the flood gates.

I don't think a lot of people realize just how poor the state of the program is in right now. I still think it's a great job because of tradition, facilities, support, etc. But our biggest problem is the conference we play in and bringing in the talent to compete against the highest level of competition in the country.

For guys like Golden, Fisher, and Strong I honestly believe it will take them 4 to 5 years to rebuild the program to the point that we are competing for SEC championships. Not because they are bad coaches, but because of how far the program has slipped.

The moment Gruden steps on campus, Tennessee becomes nationally relevant again. With the right staff, Gruden will have Tennessee winning again by year 2. I don't think there is anyone else as a plausible choice who can do that. I think the AD knows this and I really believe UT makes it happen.

I think it's going to be tougher to consistently win against Florida, Alabama, Georgia, etc. than maybe some people think. I think he's figured out what he needs to have the best shot possible and he's going to hold out for getting as much of that as he can.

Hart talked about some of the disadvantages at TN for the football program and said we're going to get those taken care of - or something to that effect.

I don't think the issue of JG's compensation will be a sticking point at all. I could be wrong. It's just not the way I read the situation. I think it's forcing TN to reconfigure itself in regards to the football program so that there is every advantage possible available in regards to taking the field against the aforementioned schools.

Link to "confirmed" meeting tonight? I checked out profootballtalk and only found this:

ProFootballTalk: Gruden Tennessee-bound?

Jon Gruden is planning on visiting University of Tennessee officials in regards to their head coach opening. What is Gruden saying about the meeting and how should fans interpret his response?

So preoccupied with this site that someone just slashed all of my inflatable Christmas decorations in my front yard and I didn't even hear them. Think I need to start paying attention to the real world again.

You need to find them, and do some slashing. Eye for an eye.
