Regarding Gruden: His name has popped up for both the Tennessee and (briefly) Arkansas openings. He is by most accounts Tennessee's No. 1 choice, and he could very well end up in Knoxville. He also might not be a very good college football coach. We have no idea because the last time he held a college job was in the late-1980s at a school that doesn't actually house a football program anymore (the U. of Pacific). For every Pete Carroll or, potentially, Jim Mora, Jr., there is an Al Groh or a Bill Callahan. If he lands at Tennessee, he will receive a monstrous salary, and, per dollar, he will bring with him more risk than any coach in college football.

Plugged in to ESPN, Knox, and UT. Worked with college football on ESPN, has contacts. Makes sense to me. UT has ties to 2 ESPN guys (not Woody Paige btw), so I have wondered if Punch was a source for somebody. Has to be Gruden is what he said is true, jmo

Guys, Dr. Punch was speculating, period. In fact he just said he doesn't think it is Gruden but that the last two weeks makes him think it COULD BE. There is no fact here, no quotes, no insider info, just Dr. Punch's opinion.

Have not lived in Memphis for years so unsure how credible the Rainman is on 560 but he just repported Gruden will be announced on the 30th for a 4 year deal. TIFWIW

I was told once that he has a daughter who's an alum. Whether he has any ties to UT other than that, I dunno. Or he could be on the boards just like us. Since Parrish is a national guy he's the only Memphis media member I'd put any stock into if he were to say anything. He should have better sources than anybody.
