Official Jon Gruden Thread X

Before this takes a down turn, I would like to repost how I believe the OG's have portrayed this deal.

I believe that the "insiders" in this thread have, at one time in this thread, said that "from what I am hearing, what I heard, I was told". So one should reason that this is all conjecture. Now some have quoted the "insiders" posts that said 100% or he is our next coach, and implied what you are saying. But if one would read the entire body of work, you would see that they are stateing, it as an opinion and not fact. Although thier sources may be powerful enough that they would choose to believe that it is indeed fact, based on who they know or heard it from. And most of them have stated that you can believe it or not.

Let me add that anyone is welcome to doubt. But, please don't post combative statements. You don't walk into churches and tell the congregation that they are stupid to believe because they have no sources. The OG's are not going to reveal their sources, so you can believe them or don't believe them. If you choose to not believe and expect details, then might I suggest that you move to a thread that you can enjoy. Be nice.

You won't see me casting any stones, but I think some readers of this thread are going to be angry if this thing turns out to be false.

Conclusions have been drawn, guarantees have essentially been made, on the premise that the person saying it was privy to information that the rest of us don't have. I think that implicitly asks readers to trust your conclusions.

Heard from a friend Gruden and family took a private tour of catholic today. Friend is a former student there. Not sure if anyone else has mentioned or heard that. Thought I would pass it along...

Here we go again. His kids are probably sick of school tours by now. They are probably like dad we are on thanksgiving break.:cray:

Heavy Breaking News: I just took a dump, and I swear to go its tinted somewhat orange and looked kind of like Jon Gruden!

Now I'm not saying this is an omen... In fact, I'm not saying that at all! What the hell is then matter with me guys? I might be following this too much. I'm losing my mind, seeing Jon Gruden in my crap for God's Sakes

I know that Basilio is high on this guy and if I recall....was onboard for Gruden early on. I know that Tony has flipped like a wet blanket. Just seems like there is something in there. I might be just hoping though!!

I'm not an insider - period. But here is my understanding of what I have heard and you can TIFWIW. Keep in mind that Hart plays things extremely close to the vest, he is very wise and deliberate, and a very sensible person. Hart only let's certain people know information when he is ready for them to know the info. So I could be off a little bit on the info and timeline bc I am getting 2nd hand or 3rd hand info from several sources and their perspectives on what is taking place. Plus, this is my opinion...nothing official...

Hart never back channeled Gruden. Some donors (not sure who) did reach out to Gruden sometime after Miss State and Missouri loss. Gruden expressed a passing interest but nothing serious yet.

After the Vandy loss, Dooley is fired. Hart has press conference.

Gruden is contacted again but this time by a few donors and some that are very close to the university. From what I can gather from reading in between the lines, there were some concerns about control, the condition of the program and university culture. There were some questions about what or how the program would operate / run with Gruden, his staff, and his commitment to ESPN. Apparently Gruden can leave ESPN but will we allow him to finish out the season? I think so...

Gruden turns down Arky.

Next, Hart has a closed informal interview with Gruden. At this point things get somewhat candid. Hart has to be comfortable with the circumstances and the overall plan on how this will work because there is a change over process and a coordination of information from the former staff to the incoming staff. Which staff will Gruden keep? Who can Gruden assemble?

Gruden is assured that he will report to Hart and is given the green light on his skeletal crew. A budget is discussed and in fairness to Gruden and the university, no official offer has been made until Gruden has assembled his staff and had a chance to interview the current staff. Gruden also needs to see if his skeletal crew is okay with coaching at TN too. There is a mutual understanding that at any point during the process that if an NFL head coach offer is made that Gruden is free and clear to pursue that offer under no obligation to the university.

Since there is a football game this weekend, a decision is made to wait till after the game and allow the current staff to coach out the season. Then Gruden can interview the current staff.

Hart reports to Cheek and a few donors in another closed door session. Everyone is satisfied with the plan. Cheek and company decide to make the money available for Hart to pull the trigger.

But this I do believe, the job is Gruden's and I don't think ESPN, money, staff, control, or facilities will be an issue.

Timing and process is the issue ....because out of respect to current coaches, the seniors, the team, and other parties involved.

Anywhere along the timeline Gruden could have easily said no like he did with Arkansas but he hasn't said no to TN...why? Fortunately no other NFL teams have come knocking...

Yes. Message board grudges are the worst, because the stakes are so low.

You're not being nosy, I like talking about the Icebears..Who's your favorite player?

Would probably be Fernandez; I don't get out to see them as often as I should since tickets are easy to get. Started as a casual fan of hockey when I saw the Washington Capitals a few times when I was stationed at Ft. Meade, MD. It is a great game, but not real popular in these parts.

That's not my style either. I will accept the announcement and move on. Life is too short.
