Would have been fine with me if they did it after MSU. That was a game that a well coached team on the rise wins. We lost by 10. Should have had an interim the following Monday.

I agree with this...I know I was off the Dooley train after the MSU game...it all became clear then that he is inept
 
The logic that I heard repeated about this (not saying if I subscribe or not) is that those in charge still wanted a chance at a bowl game. Their thinking was that putting in an interim was too destabilizing and would show the players that you were basically forfeiting the season.

If it ever became clear that we couldn't make a bowl game, the trigger would be pulled.

Rumors were strong that Dooley was privately told he was done.
To me, it sounded illogical to set a bowl game as the goal and put it in the hands of a guy you just fired.
