Gruden 100-85 He coached 11 seasons. Take away the Super Bowl year. He has an 85-81 record in the other 10 years.

So all of you Gruden lovers. Would you be satisfied with this type record?

Let's equate it to college. Fire Dooley now and Gruden wins the National Championship in his first year with Dooley's team.

Then over the next 6 years. He has two losing seasons and wins the East Division twice but loses in the SEC championship game both times.

Would you be happy?

Take away the bears wins, would you be happy?

Did someone post in here earlier that Gruden met with Johnny Majors a few weeks ago? I thought I saw something to that effect.

Cool story bro.

For everyone complaining about Gruden's record, consider that Mike Shanahan has an all-time win percentage of .565 and Bruce Parcells has a winning percentage of .569. Gruden's is .540. Pretty similar. A winning record in the NFL is very different to a .500 record in college.

The major fallacy in your argument is you can't "equate it to college" because going .500 in the NFL is a couple of orders of magnitude more difficult than going .500 at a major college program. There are few if any guaranteed wins in the NFL and no creampuffs for homecoming. Go check out the career records of NFL coaches. I think Bill Belichick is .6XX, and Tom Coughlin, who has won two Super Bowls recently, is .5XX. Apples and oranges to compare NFL records to college. Now that isn't a guarantee that Gruden will blow the doors off here like Saban has at Bama, but the fact is that Gruden is very highly thought of as a coach and could have his pick of whatever NFL or college jobs come open. We'd be lucky to have him IMO.

Bruce Parcells? His Brother Bill has the same winning percentage....hmmmm.

Jimmy Johnson was 80-64 (reg season) in the NFL, 9-4 in playoffs, 2 Super Bowls. If you magically take away the 2 SB winning seasons, he is 65-57 regular season and 3-4 in playoffs.

Would you want Jimmy Johnson as your coach?

Bama fans are crapping all over themselves. Nicky's little run is in serious jeopardy, and they know it. A new Super Bowl winning sherrif is coming to town. We will see how they feel when we sing Rocky Top all night long during the Saban lynching.

The NFL is a completely different animal. Not many NFL coach's have a winning % higher than the mid 50's. You dont have alot of control of who your players are. Completely different than in college. Ask your beloved Saban. Gruden's way worked in the NFL and was respected by players. Nick tries to intimidate players, that works in college but they just laughed at him in the NFL. Exactly why he, Spurrier, Holtz and Petrino didnt stay long. If he can get NFL guys to respect and play for him imagine what he could do with 18-22 yr olds.

Absolutely.

I watched the new Gn'R in Atlanta last year and they were great. I last saw them was in 1991 so it was great. I am feeling a little nostalgic now so let's get this Gruden thing done where the world will be in order.

Hey Bear Bryant,

You know what is awesome? This:

"Everyone thinks I'm the best damn coach in the country. But (Neyland) taught me everything I know."In seven attempts, Bear Bryant never defeated General Neyland."I never beat him," he said, "but I learned a lot from playing him."At General Neyland's retirement banquet, Bryant muttered "thank God the old guy finally quit."

So after the Gruden saga is over, no matter how it ends, can we keep this thread? good convos happening everywhere.

Stupid post. 15 games over .500 over 11 seasons in the NFL is pretty impressive, actually, because it is a more level playing field than in college.

Your boy, Nickky, learned that the hard way. Now what was his pro record? And how many Super Bowls did he win?

Didn't Nicky also lose to Grudes 2x in the pro ranks? That would scare me too if I was a bama fan...

The parity in the NCAA is so analogous to the NFL.

Or not.

Man, I hope this happens. Can you imagine what a Gruden hire would mean? It would blow up the SEC--and the entire college football world. We would immediately go from an afterthought coach to a rock star. If a Chucky announcement does come, on the next day I am buying tickets, airfare and hotel rooms for the first conference game and maybe even Oregon, too.
