Official Jon Gruden Thread IV

Basilio said in his blog that Dooley is basically dead man walking but the AD doesn't want to get rid of him in season because then you have the circus of a coaching search right out in public view. Whereas, as long as Dooley is here the Gruden stuff is just a "curiosity".

There is already a circus and the circus includes constant analysis by the media about when and if Dooley will be fired. That can't be good for the fan base or recruiting. So from here on out each Monday the media gets to see if Hart raises Lazarus from the dead and more constant speculation will ensue.

I would rather there be a circus about how UT is going to spend whatever it has to to become relevant again with constant Gruden (or insert other top coach here) rumors then the crap above.

In college football you fire or keep before the bowl game because of recruiting. Only an idiot would fire a coach after a bowl game.

I agree with you. But, firing after the bowl did work out for Michigan, in that they got who they wanted.

Well it was a nice dream for it to be an exciting day in Big Orange Country. Now all we have is a cold rainy second half Monday to work!

Hart is rationing off this recruiting cycle by not coming out and backing his guy or cutting him lose. Losing a coach is easier to combat than uncertainty.

Forget the "I know a booster" line for now and consider this. If Hart has decided to make a change, it is entirely possible that he wants to wait until the end of the already "busted" season anyway. Also if Gruden is coming to Tennesee it is not solely for the financial offer, in part it would be simply because he wants to coach here. He has an open opportunity to return to coaching at any given time and he may need or want to finish out the MNF season or at least wait until the season is further along before diverting his attention back toward coaching. Anything and everything is up in the air and we need to take a breath and see what works out. It is not like we have a choice in the matter unless you are needing a new mattress anyway.

I have no idea why, that is what scares me. No one seems to know a reason, only that he is apparently dug in on Dooley finishing the season.

That would be fine if he would just go ahead and announce that DD is done after this season. Does Hart think it's going to make him look better if he can claim he waited until after the season to make the decision if DD finishes 4-0?

im making gruden signs for troy, i hope dooley looks right at them and hart too, but they might just see me there and a couple troy fans because this fanbase isnt going to support losing, the stands saturday will be empty

Maybe Hart isn't the AD we thought he was. The quote below is bogus, because anyone competitive to a fault would have already put Dooley out of his misery.

"I'm competitive to a fault. I'm not proud of that, but that's kind of in my DNA," Hart said. "So nobody's more upset, believe me. I just can't display it like some people can."
