Official Jon Gruden Thread IV

As I said Contact thru agents can happen without an announcement. That is all that would happen until the regular season is over anyway. No university is going to grant permission for their coach to speak with us until the regular season is over anyway.

That's fine. But I'll ask again, what are the negatives to axing him now? Doing it now not only gets our name out there first, but possibly even more importantly, it denies Dooley the opportunity to curry favor with the sheep by beating up a few cupcakes and "finishing strong".

What if it turns out that Smart is Hart's guy? I for one am sick to death of all this bama crap. What works for them, does not work for us.

If this doesn't happen in the next two days, I'll have lost all confidence in Hart.

I actually understand and agree with Tony's blog points...firing him now would turn the Gruden courtship into a complete circus. They should just let him dangle and take care of it after the last game. The next four games are winnable (even with this team), so firing him and letting him coach out the season could backfire if they win out. Doing after the season just saves face for everyone.

If the boosters are handling this, and if Gruden really has made some inquiries to other coaches (even if it was Kiffin), then I still have faith it might happen. Hart simply cannot get involved until Dooley is fired for many reasons. This will the biggest hire he's ever made...he can't afford to get into a Petrino and Auburn situation. The last thing we need is a scandal while trying to fix this mess.

The presser is going to be Dooley talking about what the team needs to work on to beat Troy. No mention of a coaching change or him getting fired. Book it.

Yep.

Guess what? Troy put up 572 yards against Miss State, they should have won that game. Imagine what that SUN BELT OFFENSE IS GOING TO DO TO US. Sick of this S**T

I won't be elated with Smart by any stretch of the imagination, but at this point, I'm so sick of Dooley that they could hire just about anybody and I would just be glad that the Dooley Error is over with.

Oddly enough, that was Dooley's best class. Recruiting was supposed to be his strong suit, but the best he ever did was thanks to LK doing 95% of the work. Since then he's gotten worse every year.

I may have misunderstood, but the impression I got was that this years class was not as good and we do not need to repeat the previous mistake and keep dooley to save this year's sub standard class.

So can we all collectively disregard anyone and everyone who claims to be/know an insider after this noon presser comes and goes with no mention of Dooley being fired or a coaching change?

I will answer again. We would be hurt worse in recruiting than we would by holding the staff in limbo for the next month and less importantly to give this team the best shot at a bowl game. Bowl game isn't of huge importance but an extra game helps development of the younger kids

Really. That many people want to miss Tennessee play? Big Orange Boycott. Pathetic indeed.

I'm not advocating this but not going to the games is the only thing a fan can do to show their displeasure with the current situation. I'm not a booster and can't threaten to not give money to the university.

My problem is this......

The longer we wait, the more likely we are to whiff on all of the candidates out there. If all of our eggs are in the Gruden basket and he says no, then we have missed out on Strong, Petrino, and any one else out there.

Not saying those are the guys, but we need to be pursuing multiple angles or we will be 5-7 or 6-6 again next year with Dooley.

I'll be in wait and see mode instead of glued to this thread with all I have.

I have 5 inmates that have been waiting for home transfers for 2 weeks.

Poor guys. :)

I think the longer we hang on to Dooley the more it affects recruiting. If we get rid of him now the other schools can't negative recruit us. But it could go either way though. We should announce the new coach ASAP.thats if we have our guy. I just don't see any top recruit wanting to play for Dooley. Jmo

No. I won't, anyways. Most of those in this thread have been very clear that the timeline is a very fluid situation.

I truly believe Strong will be back at Louisville next year. And Petrino can go to hell. We need Gruden. Cause I don't Kirby Smart is the answer.

Yes, the common fan has more power than they realize.

I'm trying to have faith that Hart is smarter than Hammy but boy it is hard when we have mucked it up as much as we have the last few years.

I agree about Hart. He will wait til the last game and fire Dooley then we will end up with another Dooley type coach and be in the same situation we are currently in now.
