Official Jon Gruden Thread 50

I don’t blame anyone for hoping for Gruden. I blame those individuals who played on Vol fans emotions and giving them unreal expectations based on fabricated lies.

I think it’s also childish and fair weathered for anyone to say they are done with UT because they didn’t get their way.

Had Jones been retained and had 3 more seasons of 0-8 records against the SEC, would you continue to support him and follow TN with the same passion?

Your concept of "fair weather" is what is childish.

I wanted Gruden as much as anybody. I agreed with every positive about him that that was discussed. But, I do have a question for all of the "fans" who are now "out":

Are you going to stay out? You have to at least consider the possibility that Pruitt will win. Personally, I think he has a pretty good chance. I also think he'll have tough, edgy teams that will be fun to watch.

So, are you out for good? I hope so. I can't stand a fair weather fan.

Your concept of being a fan is flawed. Again, why are you still here? On a Vol fan message board. For Vol fans, which you apparently aren’t anymore.

My point is out of everyone that has posted in the Gruden thread, many are not saying that. Most are just disappointed their guy didn’t get picked.

I understand the troll thing, but I believe some people brought, at least, what they thought to be factual info. We will never know. The only thing that bothers me is that the AD and/or Gruden could have put this to bed weeks ago and chose not to.

If you think about this logically, there is absolutely no reason for the AD to say nothing, unless they had some sort of contact with Gruden. And I also find it hard to believe that Gruden, who openly loves Tennessee, would let this keep going unless there was some contact between parties. Yeah, I get the Gruden ego thing, but why would he take the chance of being poison to Vol fans unless he was really interested?

And your comparison is what is childish. How is not accepting multiple losing seasons the same as not accepting a coach who has yet to coach a game for us? Lol. You are delusional.

Agreed. I believe strongly that there was contact of sorts. Plus, he didn’t just let it keep going, that rocky top reference on the Seattle interview was flat out strange. I just don’t see why he would troll like that...however, I don’t really know anything at all and we might not ever have the full story.

I'm about as low as I can be, and slowly working my way through the stages of grief. Is this just optimism or is there any reason whatsoever to believe?

Non, zero, zilch, nada... :thud:

Sorry, I’m hurting with you but we HAVE to move on. We HAVE to try and get behind this guy because he’s going to be our coach. We both bleed orange! Let’s support him!

Listen, Achilles. I'm working my way through the stages of grief at my own pace (that's kind of how grief works). Right now I'm at anger. Best not to mess with me.

Also, I wasn't asking you.

I wanted Gruden. Overtures were made and we have to assume that he was never really interested in coaching UT. Now we move on as I am done with smokescreens, white whales, rainbows and butterflies. Thank you to everyone that made this thread so much fun. Good Riddance Undeserving Denizen of Egomaniacal Narcissism...

I love you! I love everyone in here. I’m not just speaking to you, I’m speaking to myself too. I’m very upset too but we gotta try and cope with this and move on. We can’t let it interfere with livelihood. Plus, I love the student athletes and respect them enough that I’m going to celebrate for them because I know this eases their minds a lot and a lot of them are very excited about this hire.

If I was Gruden with the brand he has developed I would take the same route of not speaking to it especially if you look at our past 10 yrs of cluster fook.

Open to coaching here and being confident in your ability to turn things around isn't enough...the other side has to be on the same page as well. He's a big commodity, right now, and it would be foolish to throw in publicly with us and put all that at risk, imo.

It's not his issue when we hang on every word looking to dissect and examine looking for and assigning hidden meanings then running w/ them like it's the gospel.

There's passion and there's business. It's wonderful when they're found in the same place but, again, fooking Haslam influence dynamics look to still be strong.

Then there's PM, wtf?? If Gruden was put off by Currie/Haslam antics, as rumored, then seeing PM like he's in cahoots w/ them....I would be very cautious of it all.

We've gotten what we've allowed by selling ourselves out to big money like street corner hookers.

How much of a fan would you be if Jones was still coach? How about Dooley?

They would rather grieve with those that fed them lies and false hope. It’s a disease really.

Knock yourself out, but don't tell others how to feel.

While hoping that we would remove the black cloud over the hill (last decade) it was never in my mindset that we would actually land our man Gruden. With that being said I was/am extremely hopeful. I would love to be able to take my boys to a game of great magnitude that I have had the awesome opportunity to attend at Neyland. I don't blame anyone bringing their information, it has been a great ride but I'm still strapped in waiting for the final drop. Don't know why everybody is so testy. Just enjoy the ride, if we suck, wear the Orange T with pride as I have done and still do. Tennessee pride is not about jumping ship it is about standing firm when all is against us.GBO and GRUDEN til it ain't!!!

That's where I am also, very angry!
I feel like UT didn't really try to lure Gruden, and only went coach shopping at Goodwill!
If you want to play big-boy football, you must pay big-boy salaries.
Pruitt is reported to be the sixth or seventh highest paid coach now.
So we are content with sixth or seventh in the SEC?
