To me, the rationale that withholding the announcement is out of respect for the players and current coaches is misguided. There is nothing on anyone's mind other than the future coach. Who is talking about the seniors or the LSU game? Much more focus would fall on the LSU game, players, and current coaches if this cloud of the great unknown wasn't hanging over the entire program.

Have you ever heard of a permanent coach being announced during the season? I personally cannot think of that happening.

honestly I'm wondering now with the insane videos and news of people at the airport stalking planes and business folks if word didn't get to the AD and they decided to begin putting word out its over to stop the madness before it gets worse (but that doesn't mean he's still not in play)

That is true and to my knowledge Gruden hasn't even gone that far publicly. If I recall correctly, Saban was emphatic about it. Also during the Harbaugh to Michigan saga, most national insiders felt there was no way he would coach at Michigan either.

I'm hardly the first to say this but I've been asked about it a ton. Jon Gruden will not be the HC at UT. Definitive no and we are moving on. There were always hurdles to hire him. We tried to go over, under and around those hurdles but it is not going to happen in the end. This is NOT a failure by UT administration. It just comes down to a guy that does not want to coach college football. There is no reason to be angry, downtrodden or depressed about this. There are very good football coaches who are interested in coming here. We need to celebrate that truth and get ready for the next opportunity to be a great football program again. I would also caution listening to anyone who claims AD sources in all of this. Any talk is coming from boosters and other coaches. Currie isn't leaking anything. That means that info is going to be hard to come by, even for the very best of journalists
