The thing that doesn't make any sense is why Gruden would just play around with us on national media like that and not take the job. I can completely understand him just saying no, but don't be on national radio talking about Knoxville and Rocky Top. I know people have said Gruden likes the attention, but I really do not think he would use this and poke the fire by saying things like he did today and then reject the job. He's clearly now involved himself.

Also, as far as the Tennessee side goes, you have to be careful to not let the fanbase get so hooked on Gruden that if you hire another guy we all end up disappointed. And I also think that the longer we are all focused on Gruden it will just turn off other potentially interested coaches. So something needs to happen soon.

The backlash will be sending recruits elsewhere if the new HC starts off getting blasted by fans for not being JG.

i'm not lurking, nor trolling. most folks in here know my history well enough. i'm just engaging in the discussion. i've been posting in these threads, this one in particular, all day.

Beaver - I’ve remained skeptical on your information from the getgo if you’ll recall. I haven’t waivered in that opinion as it seemed to take too much of an absolutist stance in a situation that involved way too many moving pieces. That being said, the events of the last two weeks have perked my ears to a degree - however nothing that couldn’t completely be chalked off as coincidental. Even with the good(ish) news from Wallace and Brice, it didn’t exactly parallel some of the claims made earlier in these threads.

And as of late, you haven’t seemed as committed to it being an absolute that Gruden is indeed hired - instead focusing on people on the media to ruffle their feathers. Just to be clear, are you still saying Gruden is still a done deal after the pseudo volcano of bad news tonight?

Again, you piqued my curiosity with the way some of this played out - because I was all but convinced you were a troll. After the last few weeks, I’ve softened that stance, but tonight’s news absolutely makes me reconsider it. If you stick by your guns, and it does happen, I will totally buy in - not that my opinion likely matters all that much to you. But I just need to hear it I guess - is Gruden still a go?
