Ok. I’ll say this though. This Grumor is real. Where there’s smoke there’s fire and the coals are red hot. Having said that, most of the 3rd hand info stated here has given me such a chuckle. There’s only one insider who’s not FOS.

I think the people close to the program knew what they were getting with Jones. If anything, they underestimated his dysfunctionality. I think they banked on his failure, and almost got caught out of position when he failed even worse than anyone would have predicted.

By year 3 it was fairly clear that his ceiling was 8 wins, year 4 only demonstrated that even further. Going 2-2 against Vandy in your first 4 years at Tennessee is grounds for termination alone.

Grumors has hit all the way down here in Florida. I went to dinner tonight at Davenport Ale House in Davenport, FL outside Orlando down the street from my hotel. I was wearing my Vols hat and Vols sweatshirt and while waiting for my table the manager walked up to me and said "Are we getting Gruden or what"? I laughed and said I sure hope so. The manager asked me where I was from and I told him Chattanooga originally but live in Florida now for last 25 years and he told me he's from Murfreesboro, TN. born and raised but moved couple of years ago to Orlando area. He told me he has been keeping up with the Grumors too daily and he can't wait for this to go down. ha ha Small world indeed!

The only problem I have with that is:

It was inevitable and impossible to happen any other way, but say by some miracle, Jones pulled out a 9-3 or 10-2 season. That throws a wrench into that scenario, and it's not easily reconcilable.

Good point... and that leads me to a question for which someone might have an answer. Larry Scott as offensive coordinator could be the reason we didn't have a better season. Was Jones FORCED to hire an OC from within the program, or did he decide to do it on his own. The implications of that answer are interesting.

Just a thought. All of this might be the new way of doing things. If you want to control the message, who do you control it to? Those who care. And social media is now a big part of how you deliver it.

Also, when I hear about 10 and 20 year plans, I think of business school nerds, and I'm not talking about Finance undergraduate majors). I also mean no disrespect because I have two "nerd" degrees.

This whole thing is starting to smack of a well thought out and orchestrated plan. A plan that Mike Hamilton and Dave Hart would have never grasped.

So, I am starting to buy the whole Ergen/New Wave narrative. The signs sure point that way.

I want to believe as much as the next person, but I don't think there's much to read into that. There's no doubt he could help his draft stock by coming back
