I just heard it's done, papers signed tonight in Tampa...this came with a BOOM!

I don't know how reliable this info is so I almost hate to post it here and don't quote me on it. I'm just repeating what I've heard and was wondering if anyone else heard anything similar within the last hour?

I heard it could be announced this weekend. I would think Monday would be more likely for the coverage.

Would be cool to announce at game this weekend just before pre game. Neyland would go crazy!

Man, this has been an exciting day.

I've been a nega gruden all along. But I've actually got my hopes up today. I think there is a real good chance now that this is really going to happen....or it's possible already done!

I am no insider and no reason for anyone to believe me. WIth that being said, I do a small radio sports talk show in my hometown. DUring the show tonight my cohost received do a message from a friend in Knoxville. The friend knows someone in the AD department. "As of an hour ago the deal with Gruden is done" (6:00 central time). He would have only confirm that Dale Jones is on the staff as of now. Says it will be announced during the next couple of days. Take it as you will but passing info along. Feel free to flame away

I like Mullen myself. But this program needs more than competence at the present. It needs an injection of morale, credibility, and renewal on a level that only a true home-run hire can offer. It helps that Gruden is an adopted son of this program and comes with a level of charismatic appeal that Mullen will never approach.

This will end up being very similar to the Majors hire. It will have the same impact on us as his hire had on the fans back in 1977.

Given the superior faciities, squad talent, and recruiting base on offer at Tennessee now as compared to the mid-1970s, I think Gruden has the opportunity to get this program up and running far more quickly than Majors could back then.

We need a bigger hire than Mullen at this time and I still remember Johnny saying "I want to come home" after he won the NC with Tony D at Pitt.

Gracie just wants to lay on the couch, hunt, and ride in the truck...she was $825.00 but i would have given twice that..she is my heart . we go everywhere together...but she could care less about football LOL

W.....t....f.. happened??? I honesty for a good couple of hours thought we had our guy. Bubba, Beaver, Tuesday, etc...on top of that we had former players pretty much saying we did. Even saw someone say we were in Gruecon 2 lol. I'm really confused.

Gruden or not I have learned a TON over the last few days about Butch and it is not pretty. Amazing how someone could be such a great nice guy on one hand then be able to flip a switch apparently. I still wish him the best because, as a person, that is the right thing to do but I would not be surprised to really start hearing some more huge negatives in the off season. Even those that spoke highly of him, at least those I know, are now starting to sing a different tune. I also know Antone and have for quite some time and he would not walk away from a 70k a year job over nothing. To some people 70k a year is not a lot of money but to many it is a dream. Especially doing what he loved for the school that made it possible and he dropped it and left. I am amazed how wrong I was about the "Butch was a great man but a bad coach" theory. We should have talked to more Cincinnati people after firing a control freak that was a horrible game day coach and found out we were hiring the exact same thing with better sales skills.

I hope I was equally wrong about our chances of getting Gruden to be the 24th HC of the Vols. I haven't really given it much credence until the last couple weeks. I actually believe it to be better than a 50-50 shot of it happening. Please....one time!

So if this is true, why would your boy Ainge lay down his life for Butch if he had the chance?

Haha that's awesome. Obviously I was joking, beautiful dog. I was an Alpha Gamma Rho when I was at UT so we got to have smokey at the house on game weekends.
