He's in Charlotte at SEC Network studios cutting a Ric Flair-esque promo to unveil the hiring of Gruden. Word is that Currie also met with the Nature Boy himself to get promo-cutting tips, as Flair has a house in Charlotte.
Could be what Gruden meant this morning when he said he was being mindful of current coaches. Poor Hoke would have his lap full if Jon Gruden had announced his own coming here. Lolol.
Previous post. Had lunch with the BOT member. He still refused to use the name Gruden today, but for ease of reading I've added it in his statements.
They said the AD is cautiously optimistic about the deal getting done, but it is by no means done at this point.
MoU has been signed but the contract itself has not.
I asked and they said that Jon Gruden was not in Knoxville last night.
The issues with the deal getting done still lie primarily on Gruden's side. He said "They're (AD?) in a wait-and-see situation".
Gruden is still concerned about his staff, although it is less of a concern today than it was 2 days ago.
Money is not the issue with the staff.
He began contacting staff over 2 weeks ago to gauge interest, but over the past 48-72hrs he has been working on officially bringing a staff together.
Several members of the potential staff have already agreed in principle, but there are some contract issues with 2 potential staff members, as well as a third vacancy.
I asked and they backtracked on their previous statement that 2 current staff members are being retained. This time they said they didn't know.
They said a face-to-face meeting is happening today in Tampa to hopefully line out a non-staff issue and Currie is going to push to get the contract signed today.
They feel like getting the contract signed today is reliant on Gruden feeling comfortable with the staff situation at this point, as well as lining out this other unknown issue.
BOT has been told that even if this was to fall apart, the AD plans to have a hire by 11/20.
Backup plan is Patterson. Currie has remained in contact with him and had a long conversation with him this past weekend as well as a face-to-face last week.

I have heard today from my source and only thing new that he has said is that, Inky had been reached out to. When asked if it was for VFL coordinator he said yes.

NO POLITICS.Doesn't matter if you voted for Trump, Hillary, Peyton, or Rupert.
NO TROLLING. Quit playin games with our heart.
Everybody be nice, or Freak will boot yout butt. Just ask Grude_Awakening. Pecker.
Our AD is John Currie, not Curry like chicken curry.
I would imagine the two staff members being considered for retention would be Gillespie and Warren? Theyre the only two that have gotten any type of production from their players so far.
