Official Jon Gruden Thread 34

Do you think they approached him with, “hey if we don’t get Gruden... you’re the guy” I’m sure he has been told he is our Number 1 and rightly so

No, I don't. But I don't think it's hard to figure out now that other media outlets are jumping on this.

Previous post. Had lunch with the BOT member. He still refused to use the name Gruden today, but for ease of reading I've added it in his statements.

  • They said the AD is cautiously optimistic about the deal getting done, but it is by no means done at this point.
  • MoU has been signed but the contract itself has not.
  • I asked and they said that Jon Gruden was not in Knoxville last night.
  • The issues with the deal getting done still lie primarily on Gruden's side. He said "They're (AD?) in a wait-and-see situation".
  • Gruden is still concerned about his staff, although it is less of a concern today than it was 2 days ago.
  • Money is not the issue with the staff.
  • He began contacting staff over 2 weeks ago to gauge interest, but over the past 48-72hrs he has been working on officially bringing a staff together.
  • Several members of the potential staff have already agreed in principle, but there are some contract issues with 2 potential staff members, as well as a third vacancy.
  • I asked and they backtracked on their previous statement that 2 current staff members are being retained. This time they said they didn't know.
  • They said a face-to-face meeting is happening today in Tampa to hopefully line out a non-staff issue and Currie is going to push to get the contract signed today.
  • They feel like getting the contract signed today is reliant on Gruden feeling comfortable with the staff situation at this point, as well as lining out this other unknown issue.
  • BOT has been told that even if this was to fall apart, the AD plans to have a hire by 11/20.
  • Backup plan is Patterson. Currie has remained in contact with him and had a long conversation with him this past weekend as well as a face-to-face last week.

Currie did not have a face to face with Patterson. That is unethical and would not happen without permission from TCU AD

Have to say that, regardless if Gruden is our next HC, this is the most fun I've had following UT football in years. Best thread on the internet.

1st page post would be a great honor. If I saw it on a resume, I would know right away that there is a person completely dedicated to work avoidance. It's hard to find people you can count on.

Always wondered...what makes it unethical to contact a sitting coach without getting permission from his AD first?

I mean, I get that for players. You don't poach players, even if they've said they're thinking of transferring, without talking to that school's AD or head coach for permission.

But how does that extend to coaches? Is there some NCAA rule? Gentleman's agreement? Anything substantive?
