Good morning Mister Grudenson.

If he already has a deal with Gruden, he could very well be vetting his assistants. He wouldn't be interviewing other HC candidates if Gruden is locked up.

Unless he was required to interview at least three candidates like other state jobs. Not 100% but I think they have to do that on HC job.

Previous post. Had lunch with the BOT member. He still refused to use the name Gruden today, but for ease of reading I've added it in his statements.

  • They said the AD is cautiously optimistic about the deal getting done, but it is by no means done at this point.
  • MoU has been signed but the contract itself has not.
  • I asked and they said that Jon Gruden was not in Knoxville last night.
  • The issues with the deal getting done still lie primarily on Gruden's side. He said "They're (AD?) in a wait-and-see situation".
  • Gruden is still concerned about his staff, although it is less of a concern today than it was 2 days ago.
  • Money is not the issue with the staff.
  • He began contacting staff over 2 weeks ago to gauge interest, but over the past 48-72hrs he has been working on officially bringing a staff together.
  • Several members of the potential staff have already agreed in principle, but there are some contract issues with 2 potential staff members, as well as a third vacancy.
  • I asked and they backtracked on their previous statement that 2 current staff members are being retained. This time they said they didn't know.
  • They said a face-to-face meeting is happening today in Tampa to hopefully line out a non-staff issue and Currie is going to push to get the contract signed today.
  • They feel like getting the contract signed today is reliant on Gruden feeling comfortable with the staff situation at this point, as well as lining out this other unknown issue.
  • BOT has been told that even if this was to fall apart, the AD plans to have a hire by 11/20.
  • Backup plan is Patterson. Currie has remained in contact with him and had a long conversation with him this past weekend as well as a face-to-face last week.

This is the only part I have a hard time buying.

Amazing info !!!

Chris Weinke was the starting QB the year UT beat FSU for the national title. He got hurt, then the backup got hurt, and then entered Marcus Outzen. You might remember Outzen throwing a beautiful TD pass to Goodrich.

Weinke started and won the national championship game the next year. And won the Heisman in his last.

So you see he's been a vfl for years now :)

If this is true, then we can't go wrong in my book. It would also show that Currie is very smart not to get burned by putting all of his eggs in one basket.
