I think maybe we are trying too hard to read between all the lines. Some of the stuff we are reading from source X may be sarcasm or just plain BS and, since it is text on a page there is no way to gauge the inflection of the words and gain any more insight to the statement. We read it in the voice we want to hear it in. If we want to believe Swain says that it ain't happening, then we read it that way. If we want to read it as sarcasm or an attention grab, we read it that way.
