Someone lay it all out for me....who are the potential staff members being named here? I have seen Steele and D Jones. Not sure on thoughts on Jones but I am big on Steele. TIA

I understand the disdain for Chavis, I really do. I couldn't count the times we had an opponent on the ropes and Chavis came through in a bad way. That said, we haven't fielded a defense that could come close to carrying the jock of what Chavis put on the field. IIRC, TN was 3rd in total defense in '08.

Perspective.

They were 3rd in total defense DESPITE the horrible clawfense that left the D on the field for most of the game.

We're all really familiar with the quote. I don't think Gruden was denying the possibility of coaching college as much as he was making a joke at his own expense. He has a big personality after all.

Even if he was completely serious, at the time of the quote, the Tennessee job was probably not a realistic consideration for him. Once the writing was on the wall for Butch, he could have done his homework on the NCAA rule book and started to realize that not only could he do it after all, but that he was beginning to relish the challenge.

Might be wishful thinking, but its not an unlikely scenario at all.

Several threads ago someone JG was getting NCAA rule training at his home in Tampa. Anyone else remember that and know if it was legit?

So after skimming a few pages this morning, it looks like:
Gruden's coming to UT with possibly Dale Jones and Kevin Steele on staff,
but he may go to Tampa Bay.
Chip Kelly is a lock to be hired at FL, but JAV and the FL AD say it's not going to happen.
Scott Frost is headed to Nebraska. Maybe.
Jimbo Fisher and Gary Patterson as possible plan B's.
Bout right?

guys You hire people that know the rules, asst coaches recruit , head coaches manage the program. Yes he would do in home visits But wouldn't be in contact with recruits on a day-to-day basis.
