Mullen being our back up plan makes my stomach turn. That's not swinging for the fences.

Chris Petersen or Gary Patterson should be #2 and/or #3 to tell us no.

Anyone besides those 2 after Gruden, will be a huge let down to our program. A bad hire this time may very well completely leave us at Vandy status.

I really don't think Mullen is #2. I think Jimbo Fisher will be. He's not happy in Tallahassee and would be a great #2 option if we don't get Gruden. But I think we get Jon. My top 5 would be Gruden, Fisher, Fuente,Brohm and Frost. Just who I personally would like. Hell no to Dan Mullen. That would not excite me in the least.

This...I have a close friend who is an Eagles fan (and now a Vol fan )and he's not buying the hype due to the fact
that this same conversation has been had in Philly with 'insiders' saying Gruden will be the next coach.

Yeah but they don't have a beaver

Much more likely that he ends up back in the NFL than here.

I think status quo has changed with NFL and Jon. First words last night in set up at 8:19PM “Lot of gloom in the NFL now a days”

He will make sure his staff is full of top flight names who can recruit which would ease that burden. JG would be the texter and the closer

From Babyvol on VQ...

"Just want to clarify that I’m not positive of date of announcement. At this point my best guess would be Saturday but it should definitely be within a week now. I’ve confirmed at least one former VFL will be joining the staff (defensive side), others have been approached but I am not privy to their decision yet. I won’t be more specific than that as I don’t feel it’s my place. It’s a great time to be a TN fan!!!"

Boooooooom!!!!!!!!

I understand the disdain for Chavis, I really do. I couldn't count the times we had an opponent on the ropes and Chavis came through in a bad way. That said, we haven't fielded a defense that could come close to carrying the jock of what Chavis put on the field. IIRC, TN was 3rd in total defense in '08.

Perspective.

If not for the clawfense we likely would've had a fairly successful season keeping Phil around at least another year and likely dodging the Kiffin debacle. The clawfense was the start of the slide.

james franklin was a vandy level coach....and look what he did when got to a place that wasn't vandy level.

agree though, not trying to derail the thread, just agree with your assertion.

Meh...

If this actually works out, we've got a lot of xmas
presents to give out.
1. Butch. For obvious reasons. Too many to name
but got us to this point. I recommend a book called
"How to play winning tennis w/ a slice backhand."
2. Florida. For sucking worse than everyone in the east, but laying
the ground work for removal of mediocrity in Knoxville. I recommend plastic cups
w holes in the bottom "again" for obvious reasons.

There was talk of him not being able to leave FSU right now concerning his divorce and the state laws around children and guardianship. Not sure if true.

Jimbo would also be Big, Explosive and Expensive. If they are willing to pay Gruden money, then money should not be an issue with Jimbo unless they have to cover some incredible buyout.

I really don't understand the posters who want to come in and laugh and point fingers. It's a coaching search. I'm not making a decision on where I want to spend the afterlife. If it's not Gruden I'll be disappointed. But it won't change the fun I had reading the threads. It's been a great ride so far. And here's my first one since 2012.

SOON!

Exactly.

They have no joy and misery loves company.

Would babyvol put his neck on the line for Gruden being our next coach twice? I would think he would play it safe unless he knew without a shadow of a doubt this time. Just my opinion though.

I would venture to guess that staff decisions are being made not only for the immediate future, but also with some long range plans in place. I don’t think the people who are rumored to be working behind the scenes (Fulmer, Manning) want to ever see Tennessee return to the last decade of incompetence.

I tried to go through this thread this time without putting anyone on ignore. Just couldn't do it! I still don't understand why people who don't believe, want to try and convince me why I should change my mind, or people trying to rescue me from my self. It's impossible to go through the replies since people keep quoting them. So, I have failed in my attempt.......guess I'll sleep better tonight.

I have been on the (believer) train and off the train this trip so many times and my ticket has been punched so often that it now only a hand full of confetti ...lol

I am still skeptical but I hope I am not being a butt about it :good!:
