after all that, if Currie trots out anyone but Gruden to announce as the new coach --- he will get a group F U
from the recruits and be done as A-D.

I sincerely doubt currie will be gone if Gruden doesn't come.

SO I know there’s a report saying Gruden has contacted former players for a potential staff, any idea who they may be?

I agree. Gruden is a offensive genius. As a Tampa fan I had a big problem with him from a personell acquisition perspective, but he actually squeezed a lot out of very little talent. Looking back I think his biggest mistake was taking Cadillac that year at #5 instead of trading down and getting some OL studs instead. The Mike Williams pick was bad in retrospect too, but we had no receivers and no good bargains were available in FA either, plus he was skint by the cap the whole time he was there because so much was tied up in an aging defense. I was a lot rougher on him than he deserved in hindsight.

I lived in Tampa when Tony was trying to get there. 5 years and come up short every time. Then Gruden does it 1st time. That was coaching excellence when you break it down. Chucky requires smoothness surrounding him. He's like Saban in that regard. He sees one little detail out of place, (amongst the pros), not the players he'll bring it to your attention once. Not good for a 2nd time. He'll hesitate or not sign that contract if he has to answer to more than one person. He knows himself and he knows what it takes.

Jon Grudens hobby is watching gamefilm and writing plays. The dude has stated multiple times he stays on top of the game. Constantly learning and talking with other coaches. He is as up to date as any coach out there. Everyone seems to think all Jon Gruden does is go call a game once a week then go lay on the couch and watch 16 and pregnant. The dude is an absolute workaholic. His QB camp alone is great work. Being hands on coaching guys like Tim Tebow, RGIII, Deshaun Watson....and actually being able to help them, even at their level, is proof enough that Gruden is far from having been passed over. Football isn’t just a job to the Grude....football is life for das Gruuden...

Yeah. I’ve seen that report to a few different places. I’m as curious as you. If he really is contacting potential staff...I would say that’s probably the biggest sign that he’s actually serious and likely to coach here.

He made that Pinto of a Tampa offense run like a Astin Martin in the playoffs and SB that year. It was a all time great coaching job looking back on it.

I’ve been a Vol fan for 40 years...
Paranoia is in my DNA.

Yeah I heard ya referencing the swamp rat back a little bit. 1st QB I liked at UT or 1st I ever knew and fell in love with UT.Soon after that came Bobby Scott. Orange thru and thru never wavering. We gonna kick LSU's azz or grow up some. I can't believe Jones couldn't see this program dropping off like this. Tim Priest going off on them LBer's Sat. nite for the 2nd -3rd time this year. I don't have a clue what Shoop is coaching.

I think I remember reports of him looking around for a staff last time around also, and UT dropped the ball by being cheap. Sounds like UT is done being cheap so hopefully we get it done this time. Could his name power be enough to convince a Tee or Cooter to make lateral moves as OC?

UT will be a steeper challenge but he'll get it done. I don't know if he can handpick the assistants the way he'd like and I hope that doesn't impact his decision on signing with UT.

Up to 95% confidence after FINALLY catching up today. And now it seems fairly logical to announce by Vandy.

On a slightly related note, does anyone have any good suggestions for a tailgate group name? Gruden's Gang is the best so far, but still looking for more ideas.

Oh, and I want one of those T-shirts I saw a bunch of pages ago!
