The LSU loss should be #1. It cost us the SEC Championship and cost us the chance to play Miami for the NC. We had one of the few teams in the country who could have beaten Mia that year or atleast played them good.

Agreed. Never has one game cost us so much: The opportunity to play for another NC, and perhaps worse, UT football lost its mojo and never recovered.

Also, people always remember the starting QB getting hurt, but if I recall correctly, didn't LSU also lose their starting RB in the first half too? I remember naively thinking we had LSU on the ropes at half time.

Riddle me this: why is it important if he was even in Knoxville at all?

Phone, text, email, Skype, all of those things can be used and he never has to set foot anywhere.

Contracts can be executed in counterparts. If in person meetings are required and the talent doesn’t have the availability, agents work too.

I mean it’s interesting if Gruden was in town. But that’s dispositive as we do know his son is in town, so are his in laws. For all we know his whole family could be up there for an extended Thanksgiving.

It’s interesting that he’s in town, but it’s not dispositive.

Speaking as a recruiter. At this level it is most desirable to arrange in person near the end. Since in close proximity in NC..made it easy to make that happen It is all about confirmation of fit and phone , skype etc do not accomplish the bond you wish to create. And also Currie could prob not "technically " meet him in person until Sun / Mon

Any chance that Gruden reaching out to prospective assistants was more about him being an ambassador to the ut program trying to peak interest in which home grown guys would want back in, as opposed to being his assistants should he accept the position?

Follow Up question: what are the chances that new coach focuses on bringing ut guys back into the fold or disregards that notion completely during hiring process?
