You know that Dungy was fired for Gruden because he couldn't win a playoff game, or really even score in a playoff game with Tampa. Gruden took the team Dungy went 9-7 with, including a first round blow out loss for the 3rd straight year and won the Super Bowl the next season by the largest winning margins in NFL history.

Yep and he had the Raiders in prime position and Davis traded him to TB and then Gruden took over Tampa Bay and beat the raiders. Gruden to Tennessee!!!!!!!

Did you answer the fact that was brought up that Butch has a higher winning percentage than Andy Reid? Point is, NFL to NCAA records are apples to oranges. Would you want the President of the local mom and pop bank to run CitiBank? Probably not. However, would you want the President of Citibank to come run your local bank? Pretty sure he would be successful at that.

Bringing up his NFL record is silly. He was an above .500 coach with a Super Bowl win against a team he built. I'll take that every day all day. The guy knows more football than any other candidate we would look at. He is an absolute rock star, and he would kill as a closer on the recruiting trail. You think Jon effin Gruden wouldn't be good in the living room?

You know what? Even if it didn't work out, I don't care. We would have swung for the fences and attempted to make an absolute splash. That is all we are asking for. There is no other name that does that. Kelly might to a lesser degree, but Gruden would be an automatic, immediate home-run.

You know that dungy won more games in 10 years than anyone not named belicheck. Granted he had Peyton. But he is a very good, and very respected coach.

I listened to the press conference again and now I’m a bit worried. The sole reporter who broached the Gruden topic said “Jon Gruden’s name has been thrown out there a bunch. Is there anything you can say to Tennessee fans about Jon Gruden?” To which John Currie replied “One of the things that’s most important for me to do is not add to misinformation...”

What has me worried is this: If John Currie was speaking specifically to the question as it was asked, then he specifically said the talk about Gruden is misinformation. If he was speaking generically though, then I’m less worried. I noticed Curry express a wry smile during the question, and an eyebrow flash during the answer. Do we have any body language experts or expert poker players in the forum?

You sure can talk smack but don't back it up.

Because I give an opinion about Gruden you don't like and I don't give you an alternative name for the HC spot at TN you're saying I'm wrong? Puh-leeese! Gruden is good at what he does. So is Pete Carrol. There. How about PC? Throw money at him. His resume stacks against Gruden's. Like I said, Gruden doesn't hold the market on coaching. Can the man actually coach (remember, he's barely above .500) or is it his "rock star" persona?

He wrote the song by Garth brooks that olevolfan quoted as a hint.. "ask me how I know"

I may be wrong on this, but I think OldVolFan's original post alluded to someone singing at the cma's the other night. I get that he threw "ask me how I know" out there. Maybe he misspoke.

Pretty sure he used the word rumor, not misinformation. I could be wrong, as I would have to go back and re-watch or listen.

Dingy doesn't have charisma to win recruits and besides once again a Gruden thread.
Go make a Dingy thread

Nega-Grudes: “You can’t compare NFL coaching to college coaching! They’re completely different!”

Also Nega-Grudes: “He didn’t have a great record in the NFL so he wouldn’t have one in college either!”

Soon...

Yeah,

Your over thinking it.

What else was Currie suppose to say?

Or that there is a lot of misinformation within the Gruden deal...which is likely.

What makes Gruden any different than Harbaugh (SF) or Saban (Miami)? Other than a SB win with personnel he inheirited, there isn't. Harbaugh is struggling. Saban is Saban. You think Gruden, by name alone, is going to perform some miracle at TN? TN??? Don't see it. Saban didn't have the break in coaching that Gruden has had. Gruden doesn't have the market on Xs and Os. That's why he was barely above .500 in the NFL.

Harbaugh is struggling? In his 3rd year they are 8-2 and in the top 20 after massive losses to the NFL and losing their quarterback for the season. He took over a team that went 12-13 the prior two seasons to his arrival and is 28-8 so far in year 3. He's signed a top 10 class his first couple of seasons and will again this year. If Gruden can come and struggle like that we'll be pretty happy by year 3.

The granted part is a pretty big granted in a QB driven league. Most people feel he underachieved since he had the best offensive mind to ever play the position playing QB for him. It's criminal that Indy didn't win 3 or 4 Super Bowls.

Tell that to Michigan fans. He was their savior too. Still hasn't got them to the promised land in a conf that isn't supposed to be as tough as SEC.
