I’d like to combine ours. He comes here and posts that it’s him, he’s read some of the threads, thanks us for the support and then says Currie will introduce him at half time of the LSU game. Obviously none of us would believe that....

I like that angle, but it has a flaw: the anonymous third party has to have interest in the waters being tested.

In this case, the waters are VolNation.com, which is a microcosm of the wider Volunteer nation.

Can't come up with a reason why Ergen (or any of the Big Boosters) would have much of an interest at all in testing the waters of this community. As a big-$$ guy, he knows what he wants, and is only looking for allies to put pressure on the university's leadership.

VN.com isn't a potent threat to put pressure on the university leadership.

For the life of me, can't come up with a scenario that links the waters of VN.com, the stalking horse of Beav, and any hidden actor. We're simply not an important piece in any equation concerning the coaching search.

Which means we have to be reading it wrong. Beav's not the stalking horse...we're applying the concept wrong, somehow....

I think it may have started here, but all of the vol forums, twitter, facebook, etc. played a role. Not only the fan reaction, but the media reaction as well. I haven't seen many media who denounced the Gruden hire. No opposition from media and unbridled exhilaration from fans could be a great selling point for anyone in the Gruden camp.

But if you are trying to convince an administration to more than double the outlay on coaches' salaries, then showing fan excitement and the potential for revenue generation would be helpful.

It also might be helpful to show that excitement to Gruden to get his commitment.

Wow this thread blew up today. It just took me 2.5 hrs to catch up and I was speed reading. A couple observations:

1. I woke up in a tired/bad mood and let out a loud woooo when I read the news. Instant good mood from there. It actually scared my wife a little.

2. Not using a search firm is HUGE and so was Currie's grin IMO.

3. OLEVOLFAN might have a real source.

4. If Butch is really calling recruits to tell them to decommit then he is next level narcissistic. He is seriously straight up full of himself.

I really enjoyed that, too.

Then I stepped back a bit and realized: he'd say the same thing about a half-dozen SEC programs (Bama, Auburn, LSU, Florida, and Georgia, at minimum).

And he works for the SEC-Network, so has an inherent bias in our collective favor.

So when he acknowledged us as one of the blue blood programs in the country, my initial flush of pride and agreement was quickly tempered by his probable built-in bias.

Still, nice to hear.
