Hey, I've been mentally masturbating in the Mullen thread for weeks, but just heard that Gruden might be real so I came over late to jump on the bandwagon and look cool and stuff. Can someone summarize the past 32 threads for me? Thanks in advance!

No Jon Gruden. Hell no.

Every time the head coaching vacancy comes up in Knoxville, Jon Gruden's name comes up because you guys get stars in your eyes.

Gruden then floats the idea of leaving to ESPN, using it as a way to get them to give him more money to keep broadcasting. IT'S HAPPENED EVERY SINGLE TIME HIS NAME COMES UP AS A COACHING REPLACEMENT AT TENNESSEE.

Tennessee needs a head coach who recruits well, with a proven winning record and genuinely loves the Big Orange and its fans. Jon Gruden has none of those abilities or capabilities. He ain't even a good NFL commentator.

I'm sick and tired of hearing Jon Gruden's name come up every time there's a vacancy. He needs to stay where he is, and we need to get us a great coach. Gruden is not. Dude... you're not in the running. Your number ain't coming up. I will personally travel the 100 miles to Knoxville myself and lobby AGAINST you if your name comes up, and I hope you are there visiting when I do.

Quit drinking the Gruden Koolaid, Vol fans. It ain't got no sugar in it.

I'd rather have Peyton Manning. Heck, I'd rather have Phil Fulmer back, before Jon Gruden. My mother would be a better choice.... at least, she has the dignity and respect to not use the offer to get more money out of her current employer.

Do you know where you are? And what position would your mother coach?

OK...My first post. I was awaiting Freaks clearance so I had this prepared for yesterday....I am going to let her go ....

First of all a BIG tip of the hat to all of our veterans. We all owe you a huge debt of gratitude!

As a new member but a long time follower of this site I want to share why I am joining now......

I grew up like all kids in Knoxville a huge Vol fan. That all escalated one summer afternoon when a family from south Ga. moved into my neighborhood and later asked me if I would like to mow their yard. Mr. Bennett said the “payment” would be a ticket to UT football games. He was Buddy Bennett, defensive back coach for the Vols. Little did I know, that ticket would be a pressbox ticket sitting with the coaches !!! What a DREAM for a 10 year old kid!!! Side note, were you aware there used to be a cable that ran from the pressbox to the sidelines that was used to send Polaroid pictures??

I have followed this board forever and have never been one to post. I love reading and following all things that pertain to UT. After the GA game, I opened this thread and began reading it, I became intrigued, I became addicted, and quickly I became a GRUMOR!!! And I was and am PROUD of it!

Ladies and Gentlemen, we are turning the page to a new chapter of Tennessee Football and in fact sports. This changes the entire athletic department. There is a new mentality. No longer is contending for championships or winning “Google Bowls” acceptable. WE ARE HERE TO WIN SEC/NATIONAL Championships!!! AND WE ARE GOING TO DO IT !!!

I have never been one to understand or except the term “year zero”. I don’t think G does either. Like you all, I think the cork comes off tomorrow and the ball starts rolling in Knoxville. I think the official visits have been held for the LSU game. Coach G will be on the sidelines to coach AND to RECRUIT. Get ready cause the phone lines are going to start ringing of kids wanting to come and capture the excitement. This will make the final two games of the season exciting and fun for the fans as well as for the kids. These seniors need and deserve our support. In fact, coach Jones does as well. He has brought us from the depths to this point. He has represented us with class and dignity and we owe it to him and his family to do the same.

One of Pat Summitt’s notable quotes was “ Left foot, right foot, breathe”. It’s time we come back.....It’s time we become relevant agin.......It’s time.....It’s time!!! .....IT’s FOOTBALL TIME IN TENNESSEE!!!

It's Football Time In TENNESSEE - YouTube

Now I am going to GTFO !!!! (Am I the first to tell myself to GTFO?)

This will not end well for you. GTFO, delete your account and log back in under a new account. Then learn your lesson and never disparage the Great Grude again.

The only way I read the Stalking Horse reference is that the boosters were the stalking horse, gaging interest and viability with Gruden. Because they learned that the deal was viable, now the AD (the "anonymous third party") can move forward with the deal.

I literally can't read it another way.

👆 Makes the most sense.

Further down it had discussed smokescreens and other "related" concepts.

#Soon. But to be completely honest I'll also be hyped if it's Chip Kelly.

I would be hyped with any of the following:

Gruden
Mullen
Kelly
Patterson
Petersen
Miles
Cooter
Dantonio
Frost

I'm sure your mother is a wonderful lady with an abundance to offer, but I'm going to venture a guess that she's not the most business-minded woman then

Just digesting that Press Conference and now thinking:

Let's assume we are getting Gruden. He is the voice of the NFL essentially. His departure would be a big change for ESPN. It would affect many factors of the NFL, MNF, views, sponsors, etc... At least short term. If Gruden went to ESPN letting them know, I think they would request Gruden to do so silently while giving them time to have a quick replacement, and probably adamant on the silence.

This goes along with how silent Currie has been.

It also goes with firing Butch 2 weeks before season is over, rather than end of season, or 5 weeks ago.

I'm wondering if Currie has been waiting on Gruden to give them the go ahead. Gruden has been waiting on ESPN. ESPN plans to make make changes between Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Also, Currie making the specific comment "if you hear anything else other than coming from me, it's not true" is like he is thinking about HOW they have to announce this publicly and that he is waiting on something. It's common sense that the AD makes the final call and it's all rumors until then. We know that. It's like he's trying to quiet down the rumors until it's official. Out of respect for Gruden and ESPN.

When the dust clears I hope Gruden isn't just assisting with the hiring process somehow. A lot of the Grumors would be true just not the end result.

More like toasted-vols. A lot of people still smell of burnt hair from 2012.

The one thing that bothers me greatly is the people who are 100% do not want or welcome any questions but rather go on attack as soon as you do.

If I knew something was 100% a fact, I would welcome you to ask anything you want to.....

I know that many who come in here to ask questions are generally only mocking, but some (including myself) are looking for a reason to believe it true not looking to disprove ... O Well
