Official Jon Gruden thread 32.

Obviously John Currie is not going to be announcing a new coach today. That would be completely ridiculous I have not been paying as close attention to this thread because it was causing me blood pressure problems. If he does have someone already in place he would never come out and announce the new hire on the same day that he announced the firing of the previous coach. The “search“ has to go on for a period of time to give the appearance that people were interviewed and that he did his due diligence on finding the best candidate. I am guessing one week.

Most of what you posted does not apply to this circumstance. For highly specialized positions, multiple candidates do not have to be interviewed. If the appropriate documentation has been agreed to (think MOU here), nothing would preclude Currie from moving forward at this point. With that said, I don't anticipate an announcement tonight. When that time will come doesn't matter at this point, at least not to me. I'm more concerned with the candidate than the timing.

I’m just curious what people think. Pointing to a very rare exception as a possibility is not a terribly smart way to govern expectations.

I know of people who have been struck by lightning, but that doesn’t keep me from going outside.

Noone is expecting it today and I don't think anyone but you suggested as much.

If Gruden does not become the next coach it will not be because of anything on the Tennessee side. It will be because he doesn’t want to do it.

That is what I believe but am not sold that Gruden wants to do it... but hope I am wrong

If true, still insane. No way are they paying that. And I don't know anybody in their right mind who would want us to pay that for Jimbo.

It’s probably not that high but I know it’s a lot and he’d be foolish to leave and someone would be foolish to pay.

Swain said he has heard other recruits have been called with the same pitch also. tifwiw

I don’t doubt it knowing the other story has been confirmned. All I meant was anyone who’s had an unpleasant experience with Butch is gonna spin it however they see fit.

It’s bad yes but probably not as bad as some will portray it

What I hate most about firing Jones today (I wanted it and am glad, not my point) is the probable 2 weeks of speculation and crappy choices we have to hear about. We need a program changer that can develop players and get them into the league. Not a motivational speaker or a slightly better version of Butch. Listening to Aaron Hayden yesterday, I agree completely that we need a TN man. Not just somebody that wants a better job.

Wow- testimony from the witnesses said Jimmy knew. Amazing. Still need to distance from him. He's breaking down.

One of my old professors went to school with Jimmy. He said it wouldn't be hard for him to believe that Jimmy didn't know just because the guy just isn't that smart. Bill, smarty guy. His dad, smart guy. Jimmy, though? A completely different story. If his managing sense is anything like his football sense, I could believe it.

My Grudometer has gone from about 95% to 40% post-Butch firing. Several national media outlets reporting now that we have had serious discussions about Mullen and that Greg Schiano is under serious consideration as well. UGH. Not exciting or encouraging at all....

That doesn’t mean anything. Remember during the 2008 coaching search everyone talked about Butch Davis being the number one target and we never even talked to him about the job.

Governing expectations? What? I think you're taking my comment a bit too seriously.
