For folks like VFL92 casting doubt on the Tennessee Volunteers being Tennessee's team, there are, from time to time, surveys done of the college football world. These surveys generally come out in the form of maps, showing how people answered when asked their favorite team. Maps like this one, from The Sports Flavor:

They always show Tennessee in orange, with a small dot of black in the West End of Nashville for the (very small and isolated) Vandy community, and a somewhat bigger bubble of Memphis Tigers blue in Shelby County.
The whole rest of the state, East, Middle, and West? Volunteer country.
Nashville is Volunteer country. Much of Memphis is as well. Knoxville is. Chattanooga is. Murfreesboro is. Clarksville, too. And Jackson. The Tri-Cities. Tullahoma-Shelbyville-Manchester. Cookeville. Lynchburg. McMinnville. Bucksnort, yes even Bucksnort.
They're the Tennessee Volunteers. Period.
Ok, before we get off on an off-topic discussion, I'm not saying the Vols aren't Tennessee's team. In any county in TN, there would be more UT fans than any other school, but in my experience from living in, and traveling in, other states there seems to be less loyalty than some states. I grew up in Chattanooga, went to UT, and now live in the Nashville area. I love the Vols and there has always been a huge contingency of Vols in those areas, but you sure see a lot of bumper stickers and flags flying for Bama, Ole Miss, Auburn, and other schools these days.
Not trying to pick a fight here. We all love the Vols and want the same thing.
Back to Gruden.
Just a thought (and anyone with anymore analytical ability than myself please chime in) but why would we announce Hoke as the Interim just to announce Gruden as the HC later on that day? Im still at 60-70% just think the timing might be more like the end of the season for an announcement? Or maybe I just should GTFO for the day?....ok Ill escort myself out.
