Basilio was recording a podcast tonight and during it he gets a text. It read "My father was at basketball game tonight and was told by 2 movers and shakers that the deal with Gruden was finalized Wednesday night". Basilio then says "if I told who this is texting me you guys would freak out".

I can confirm this. Basilio read it off at the end of his Periscope podcast. Said it was an elected official.

It’s funny how the media has characterized it. It’s much like this board. Lots of cautiously optimistic people talking about it like, at a minimum, has merit and is realistic. Then you’ve got the people saying “no one in their right might would even think that’s a possibility.”

The things moving the needle for me this time around vs believing it’s just whatever happened in 2012 all over again are 1) LWS saying that people are aligned in going after him. If he doesn’t come, it’s because he said no. Somebody correct me if I’m wrong, but in 2012 he never gave it a chance. 2) Hubbs saying “the question is whether or not gruden wants to coach.” That’s hubbs speak for “everything else has been taken care of, it’s in his court now.” - my interpretation.

Those two factors make me believe it’s a legit possibility and that the situation is real. People that deny there’s contact and discussion with gruden are simply contrarians. However, just because it’s possible doesn’t mean it’s probable.

I agree. I've been watching the media closer than anyone and the last couple of days even some of the complete negagrudes are starting to come around. That has peaked my interest. That and the message board insider hold outs are changing their tune. There's been some straight up legit posters that seem to think it could happen or already has.

The 3 and out boys were talkng about Gruden and 2012, basically saying he needs to s*it or get off the pot. That Currie shouldn’t waste their time with Gruden like last time and then have to panic to hurry and hire a coach. Made it sound like Gruden trolled us for a month and backed out. It was the first I’ve heard the story told that way. I thought Hart and Co. bungled it.

Checking in from the labor delivery room, where my wife’s contractions are increasing in frequency and intensity as the birth of our first son nears within hours. As I sit here anxiously waiting, one persistent thought consumes my mind: GRUDEN TO THE HILL!

Gotta go, the wife thinks I’m texting my sister with a baby update. Soon like Gruden!

The wife is now in a state of light slumber after a powerful concoction of pain medication administered by the good doctor. It appears it will be at least mid to late morning before my son arrives in this world. I pray he will never know the horrors of the Kiffin/Dooley/Jones years. His dad grew up with Majors and Fulmer and lived in Fort Sanders during the most glorious or glory years. His dad also was heckled by Vandy fans — VANDY FANS — as he left the stadium early during the Dores’ dismantling of Dooley and Co. Thank God he was fired the next morning.

A poster asked if I was naming my son Gruden? The answer is no, because naming a mortal man after an immortal coaching god would be blasphemous, the equivalent of cartoon caricatures of religious prophets. I would never take the Grude Lord Gruden’s name in vain!

It’s going to be a Grude next 12 hours for yours truly. And while my boy won’t be named Gruden, i do wonder if he might hold the distinction of being the first live berth messages in a Volnation Gruden thread? Would that make him our first Gruden Baby?

I love you all!

MY SON IS COMING, SOON LIKE GRUDEN!

Fantastic. Congrats.

I am sure that this guy is more your speed.
2000
but I will say that the Hound is probably my favorite GOT character.

😍😍😍sigh. Jon Snow.

Although if we’re talking pure sexy, it’s Khal Drogo aka Jason Momoa. Another top 5.

Congratulations one of the most awesome things I have ever witnessed was my children being born. Soak it all up brother because they will be grown way too fast.

Wallace has me intrigued. No doubt. Seems to have what Hargis did last time.

Cutting through all the cryptic fun and games with beave, bubba, and the “yeah I heard this a while back, glad it’s coming out now” stuff, there’s been a few pieces that truly seem legit. Not that the other stuff doesn’t.

Here’s what the points are for me:

- boosters/aligned and moving in the same direction. That’s been said by anyone with any knowledge, including guys like LWS, who are notoriously skeptical.
- the espn layoffs and decline in NFL ratings. These are well covered and documented facts. This, IMO, is the only reason Gruden would consider leaving the booth. I do think he’s always planned on returning to coaching at the right time. Espn struggling seems to indicate the right time.

Those two factors alone, all grumormongoring aside, are enough to make me hopeful.

Being as we have gone down memory lane tonight. My son made the 7th grade Tn Future Stars team this past spring. His coach was former vol Chris Wampler and the 8th grade coach was Aaron Hayden. At the banquet the night before the game Aaron spoke and told stories about his time at UT. It was great for the kids young and old lol.I know cool story bro,but I tjought some of you older guys would recognize the names.

Good luck, my man. Best thing that will happen to you and your wife. My two girls are so big and independent, it’s unbelievable.

This will sound weird and maybe it’s just a Mom thing, but smell your baby for me. New baby smell is the best smell in the world. I used to sit and just sniff my kids head.

You’re going to have so much fun and so much not so fun, but it’s so worth it.

Best wishes.

Ya but today he said you know I don't have a guaranteed contract
So just meant hope that's not a jab at ESPN to renegotiate.

It's pretty common knowledge that ESPN is struggling right now and one of the biggest reasons why is that they have overpaid rights fees for the NFL. Ratings for MNF are spiraling downward and nothing justifies the salary that Gruden is being paid. Clay Travis has outlined this well for a while now (I hate to give him any props). If Gruden wanted to leave, ESPN would probably welcome that. There will be more layoffs coming soon at ESPN is the word.
