Speaking of Sand Mountain, @ Preacher you might be interested in a book..."Salvation on Sand Mountain" very interesting read regarding a reporter following a snake-handling church and an associated court case. The story makes reference to Newport. It is a very interesting story based on actual events and people.

i used to work with his daughter at a grocery store in newport in my teens.

my pastor in newport has that book in his library.

I really believe that if we were to lose pretty big this weekend that Butch will be fired. Writing is on the wall that he definitely won't beat LSU if he can't beat Missouri, which means no bowl. No need to drag it on. May mess with Currie's timeline, but I just don't see the need to hold onto him any longer. Fire him after a loss to Missouri and fans will rally because they're excited to move on. LSU game would have a lot better crowd. Haha

You can believe what you want to believe. I choose to believe him. He has nothing to gain by telling me this and everything to lose. 20 year long friends don't lie to friends about a meeting/speech. There is a 1% chance I misunderstood, so I'll text and ask again. But, I mean... who makes up a lie about a speech. If he wanted to lie, he would have said Manning gave a speech and they had beers afterwards.

I totally believe you. I went back and read your original post, and it completely stands to reason that if Haslam were to come in to give a speech, that's precisely what would be said. If anything else is even hinted at, no more anonymous posts, this info would be flying everywhere and coming from people like Hubbs...not at all what they want at this point in time. Hell, I can assure you, they STILL want to make a bowl game! This doesn't discourage me...if it didn't go down like this, I would be baffled. Keep up the good work!

Funny Story:

Many years ago there was a death during a snake handling service in our county (close to Newport, but not Cocke County). This death made national news and a all of the tabloid TV shows across the Country had picked up on it.

I happened to be in the Sheriff's office when he got a call from one of these Television Shows and they asked him if he had found the snake? He replied no.

When he got off the phone, he turned to me and said, "That snake has already killed one man, why in the hell do they think I would want to find it?"

Just spoke with a friend in the AD. Currie had Haslam come in yesterday. Haslam gave a "Leadership" speach to the athletics department. Butch, Haslam, and Currie were extremely buddy-buddy. The mood around the office is that Butch is staying and that Currie is trying to get everyone on board with it.

"Hey everyone, Haslam is here. He likes Butch. So we should all like Butch. Hooray!"
