OFFICIAL "I might have to eat some southern-fried crow about Debord" Thread

The OL has definitely improved with the time Coach DeBord has been with them. In addition, the WR Corps has really impressed me with their down field blocking also. We all know, a lot of WR's take plays off if it's "going the other way" or the ball isn't coming to them. This group debunks that myth and really takes pride in maintaining their blocks. There was only one holding penalty on the WR's and that says a lot.

Thought those TDs were wiped out by Jennings AND Johnson holds?

Side-note: Is anyone surprised that Kamara was caught from behind? Thought he was one of the fastest guys on the squad.

I was a little surprised too, Agent. But I don't remember folks saying he's among the fastest on the team. Not up there with Malik Foreman, for instance.

People have talked a lot about how quick and agile he is, more than his straight-line 40 times. Maybe they did, I and I just missed it.

I thought someone mentioned he ran a 4.4 or something around that measure.

AFAIK Foreman, Abernathy, Berry and Mosley are supposed to run in the 4.3-4.4s.

Maybe I saw "one of the quickest" on the team and made it into "fastest". He is 215lbs afterall. That is what really surprised me. Thought he was around 195-200. Pretty big guy.

There are two sides to the pendulum. His response about 'waiting to see' is actually in the middle of the path and quite rational. I doubt it was because he can't stand a positive post.

Having said that, If Tennessee beats Oklahoma, there is no need to 'wait and see' and all of you should blow the top off of VN because it's ON!!

My post was not directed solely at this one poster, but rather at the hoards who repeatedly post the same things over and over again.

I especially loath the ones who will not be convinced of any improvement "until the season is over". It's a bit too late to get fired up about our team when the Vols are playing roundball IMHO. Stupid, STUPID statement.

We still don't have a RB with elite speed. Need a couple in the upcoming class.

Not so worried about "elite speed" in our RBs. Far more interested in great stamina and rugged endurance, lower body strength and elusiveness and vision. The first twenty yards beyond the LoS is the playground of the RB. If he can keep pounding first down after first down, I'm not so worried whether he can always win the foot race for the other 60 yards. Nice to have, sure, but first let's make sure he has the power and reflexes to get the first down every time.

That's how I see it, anyway. Maybe I'm old fashioned.

The jury's still out but I might be pickin' some feathers out of my teeth before the season's over.

Kamara is probably a high 4.4's type of back. Plenty enough speed to pull away from most defenders, but you're always going to have some DB's who take good angles or who happen to have elite speed, even if they don't play for an elite team.

If you watch that first gif again, and again, and again (our VN 63 standard...view 6seconds for 3 reps :) ), you'll notice that he starts pulling away early, but the DB lunges and that makes it appear he closed the gap. The gap was still there when he lunged, and that's why he was only able to nip Alvin's heels.

I also suspect Alvin let off the throttle a tad as he approached the goal line.

It's going to be fun seeing him open up the playbook saturday.

Win or lose, I will be impressed if he does open up the playbook. My main complaint with Jones first 2 years wa that he seemed to go too conservative in the games in which we are underdogs. Especially the OU and Fls. Games last year.

Wrong. Kamari is as fast as any back in the sec. His juco coach said the only other athlete he's seen that is comparable to kamara is cp. does cp not have elite speed either?

Plus by that point they want to "just move past it" and "we're all Vol fans"

That is until the next time they ***** and moan.

On bring up a game from 2005.

None of them would have enjoyed the National title year at any point during the season.

"We can't win without Peyton"
"We barely beat Syracuse"
"No Jamal Lewis = we suck"
"We needed a fumble from Stoener to win"
"There's a 10 foot stick up my bum"

unbelievable comment with both Hurd and Kamara posting times they have over a long period of time, both were highly rated and ranked because they were not with elite speed ...lol ...gmafb

When CBJ was at Cincinnati and they played Oklahoma he opened up the entire playbook. I expect the same tomorrow night.

It's too early to start eating crow but we may want to start googling recipes.

This. No proof of any kind yet. Let me see him against the rest of the SEC first. I'll be honest, the guy has me as fooled as the rest of the nation, and I've been following Butch for a while. Maybe the best poker face I've ever seen.

Lmao it's game 1 against BGSU. Let's wait....
Read more carefully, Cletus, before you start laughing your bum off.

All I said was that I was impressed with what I saw on Saturday, and I MIGHT end up having to eat some crow. I also said IF THEY KEEP IT UP....I'd be happy to.

Good grief, some of ya'll really are Negative Nancy's
