You really think that much of shaq these days? I don't.
Bottom line is that grossly overpaying a player is something that can hold a franchise back for years. I point to the contract my blazers had with raef lafrentz as evidence.

Shaq had a better season in every category per 36mins than Horford last year...So yeah, that, combined with the fact that the only reason the Hawks got bounced in the second round was because they had no one to matchup with Howard, makes me think it would be a great pickup.
Not saying I like giving JJ the max, but for the Hawks it was either that or fade back into obscurity. I see why they did it. JJ is the guy people go to games to see, so if they want people in the seats they had to pay him.
It's not just the Hawks either. Amare, Bosh, and many others are going to be getting contracts way above what they should be getting. Thats just the way it is going to be for this year until the new CBA goes into effect.
