Shaq had a better season in every category per 36mins than Horford last year...So yeah, that, combined with the fact that the only reason the Hawks got bounced in the second round was because they had no one to matchup with Howard, makes me think it would be a great pickup.

Not saying I like giving JJ the max, but for the Hawks it was either that or fade back into obscurity. I see why they did it. JJ is the guy people go to games to see, so if they want people in the seats they had to pay him.

It's not just the Hawks either. Amare, Bosh, and many others are going to be getting contracts way above what they should be getting. Thats just the way it is going to be for this year until the new CBA goes into effect.

And while JJ's contract is crazy, I don't think it's near as bad as Raef's lol. That was a head scratcher.

The principle remains the same. Joe Johnson better prove his worth in the coming seasons for getting that money.

If not, your Hawks are stuck with a big, heavy unmovable contract for five years.

Speaking of heavy, immovable things . . . It looks like the Cavs are about to do a sign and trade sending Shaq to the Hawks for Marvin Williams.

PLEASE BE TRUE!! I'd rather watch Shaq stand around down low than watch Marvin stand around the 3 point line.

He is exactly what the Hawks need. 18-20mins a game and bang with howard in the playoffs.

Plus we would get out of Marvin's horrible 7mil+ per season contract.

I agree. People are dogging this trade, but at least Shaq can take up space and let Horford play the 4 where he belongs.

Horford will be even better at the 4 that he has been filling in at the 5. He has said for the last 2 years he would prefer to play the 4. Hated him at UF, but the guy is a team player that the Hawks need to hold onto.

JJ wil avg 23, 5 and 5, the Hawks will make the playoffs as a 5 seed and lose in the second round. This will be the trend for the next few seasons.

They're playing great right now. The new offense has made them a completely different team. I like that the guys are all getting reduced minutes. I can't wait for Nov 22nd so we can see what this team is really all about.

The Hawks offense looks as fluid as I've ever seen this group. Not nearly as much isolation basketball as they seemed to fall into at the end of every game under Woodson.

JJ scores 11 points and the Hawks get a double digit win. NEVER would've happened under Woody.

Yeah.. We need to keep pace with Orlando, and playing bad teams will help in the W column. Hopefully they don't play down to the comp...

What do think of the new coach and this years team???

I haven't got to see any games yet this season. lol I usually try and tune in after football is done.

Joe Johnson out 4-6 weeks with elbow surgery.

I couldn't believe it when I saw him interviewed the day before yesterday and he said the elbow hurt him off and on and was bothering him last year. I'm sitting here trying to figure out why you give a max contract to a guy with a bad elbow!?

Or why the hell would you not say something when the season ended so that it could be addressed then.
