Official GTA IV Thread

In honor of all of the hype for GTA IV, I picked up the copy of GTA III that's been laying by my xbox for about 4 years. I'm actually a little proud that I've flown through most of it (well, at least as proud as an adult can be about performance in a video game:p)

The last mission--the rescue at the dam--is very, very hard, though. I'm going to try to finish the thing tonight.

I don't think I've ever even come close to beating GTA III. I just always get sidetracked with something.

I played III, Vice City, and San Andreas straight through until I beat them. I can't put down a Rockstar game.

III is still my favorite- one of the most ground breaking games of this decade.

i've beaten all of them, including vice city stories and liberty city stories. san andreas took forever, though. it literally took me about 5 or 6 months to beat that game. no joke. there's just that many missions. that and the map is incredibly huge.

vice city remains my favorite out of the series though. everything from the setting, the music, and the storyline is almost perfect for that game.

Is there going to be any online gameplay for GTA IV?... I dont know how they could do it, but it would be sweet.

Yeah, there is. There was a post a couple pages back talking about it. Some type of co-op with different storyline than single player, deathmatch, team deathmatch, cops'n'crooks, mafia I, mafia II, racing and a few others.

I beat III last night. If you don't get all of the secret packages (which I didn't,) and you don't know the cheats (which I couldn't get to work,) you kind of have to plow through the final mission until you figure out which order to kill the bad guys. The most important thing for me was to decide which 5 guys to snipe, seeing as how you only get 5 shots.

It is strangely unfullfilling to waste so much time on a game, finally finish it, and then be left thinking, "well, that's it. It is over."

I've got Vice City still sitting in the box, so when I get the xbox fever again, I'm sure I'll try and do to Miami what I did to New York.

i tend to stay away from cheats, even in grand theft auto. i just think it takes away from the game. it can be fun if you're just going around goofing off going on mindless rampages. but i hate using them on missions to beat the game.

you should enjoy vice city if you ever sit down and play it though. its 10x better than III IMHO.

I figure that since the programmers put them in, the cheats aren't really cheating anyway. And there are only so many times you can get blown up before trying white-black-lefttrigger-circle-circle to try and get a rocket launcher.

Banging your head against the wall is no fun either.

But like I said, I couldn't get them to work.

I traded in RSV2 yesterday towards GTA. I've been playing nothing but FPS' latley that I've become board with them. GTA, while a shooter will be something new. A change of pace.

Man, I'm really hoping to get this at midnight at Walmart. Then, I'll be up for a day or two straight killing folks online and off. Can't wait to get some Volnation lynch mobs rolling the streets looking for some action.

My xbox is due back next week so I will be up in running in time for some gang banging

I bought a PS3 last Friday pretty much just for this game. I picked up COD4 and it has been a lot of fun so far. The PS3 is really ramping up the games.
