Chris Peterson, imo, would actually be a grand slam. Not a bigger name per se, but as close to a sure thing as you can get. He’d have the Vols contending for a playoff spot year in and year out.

I agree. I also would put Gary Patterson and David Shaw in that category (I absolutely love watching Stanford play football--they play like an SEC team).

I know we would be let down if it is not Gruden, but I don't know how a reasonable person couldn't get excited about any of those three.

I think Gruden is signed, sealed & we're waiting on the delivery (to stay with the morning theme music!), but I'm curious ab people who say no way to Gruden (not necessarily you, more like Hyams, Basilio, et al). What work do you know has been done interviewing other candidates? We have had confirmation that Gruden & Currie have spoken.

If it is not Gruden, I think the next coach is signed and sealed. Currie does not jet off to the Bahamas if he is still looking for a coach.

Nailed it! He's either a genius or he's majorly botched this and won't be around long. The fact that he's not using a search committee will only amplify his hero/moron status.

Plus he heard someone from this thread Saturday following him and pestering the $h!t out of him!

Soon!

If 1 of my kids had it in his head he might be getting this really expensive toy for Christmas, and I heard him day after day after day say how excited he was to get it, and I knew I had no means to get it for him, I think I would nip it in the bud. How mean would that be to let that build up in his head all the way to Christmas and see his face when he opens up a pack of socks?

I think the options are:

1) It is really a done deal

2) It's absolutely not happening, and Currie is essentially trolling us

3) They're still trying to get it done, but there are hangups with it, which means Currie can't really openly talk about it

I think #3 is the most likely. If it's #1, I think we would have announced him already. Why not?? If it's #2, then Currie is really hurting himself and whoever the next coach is.

I don't think he has ever made a football hire. Snyder has been at KSU since football was invented lol. In basketball I believe he has only made one hire and that was Bruce Weber.

This means nothing to me. Currie is now involved with the big boys here at Tennessee as a fairly young AD and I guarantee he understands that. He seems to have the fiery ambition and cockiness to do really well here and landing a big time “breaking news” football coach is the first step.

Those three would be perfectly acceptable. Throw in Jimbo and John Harbaugh, and I will continue to believe that we are, as an institution, at least trying again.

Onward....Gruden to the Hill.

I actually had a Gruden dream last night. Dead serious with this.

Dreamed I was at the Vandy game, stands were less than half full. I'm wandering around looking for my seat, when I wander into one of the skyboxes.whwn I go inside, there's a guy with a bunch of kids around him, and as I approach he turns around and it's Gruden.

I introduce myself, go a little fanboy, and then think "OMG, I need to get a picture for VolNation, otherwise they will never believe me!" But then I realize I don't have my camera. I ask if he will wait for me to go to the car and get it, but he says "sorry, I haveta go watch my team play."

Well that totally flips me out in my dream...he said it was his team! VolNation will believe he's coming if I can just get a pic! So I tell him thanks, and race to find my car, and get my camera. I find it and then run back and start wandering through the half-empty stands during the game to find Gruden.

And I finally find him, with the kids still, in the nosebleeds of all places. I ask again if we can get a picture and he says ok, but then I realize in dream that my camera is broken, so I start to panic. Gruden is also losing patience. Then (as happens in dreams sometimes) I realize that I have had my phone all along, I should use that! So I pull it out and it's taking me forever to get the phone settings right, and Gruden is getting more and more uptight because I'm distracting him from the game.

But FINALLY I get a picture, thank him over and over, and rush back to my car to upload and tell you guys GRUDEN IS HERE!

Then I look at the photos and they are AWFUL. Like blurrier than the Calhouns photo. You can't really tell anything. And I'm like "I can't go back to Gruden and ask for another pic, he will be mad and might decide not to coach but because of me. But I have to bring SOMETHING to VolNation!"

So I decided to post my good news that I saw Gruden and here's my photo. And everyone ripped me as a troll and a liar because the photo was garbage.

Then I woke up.

The end.
