Chris Peterson, imo, would actually be a grand slam. Not a bigger name per se, but as close to a sure thing as you can get. He’d have the Vols contending for a playoff spot year in and year out.

Nailed it! He's either a genius or he's majorly botched this and won't be around long. The fact that he's not using a search committee will only amplify his hero/moron status.

If I'm not mistaken, we've postponed all official visits since the Georgia game until this Saturday. It would make a whole lotta sense that we announce a coach before then or tell the recruits since there will be so many there.

Here's a thought, the NFL is shooting themselves in the foot, and fball ain't going away, not in our lifetime anyway, there's a boatfull of money to be made in the next 20yrs, don't skimp now on a google coach at this point in time, now's our opportunity

Good morning btw! I had a dream last night that I was at the Vandy v. UT game and at half time, the band came out and started writing on the field (with some orange powder like substance), which stretched from end zone to end zone, that spelt Accepted (which in my dream must of meant Gruden accepted our offer). The crowd went nuts and then an announcer came on the mic and said, “ladies and gentleman, I would like to introduce you to your new coach, JON GRUDEN!!!”.

I was then trasnported to the field and Jon Gruden walked right by me! I was full on star struck and I think I was crying a little bit (in my dream, I’m WAY to manly to ever cry in RL).

This has to be a sign, right?

This will be one of the biggest if not the biggest sports story of year...NATIONALLY
And it will bring tons of publicity to UT for months!
It won't just die in a couple of weeks!

TIMING IS EVERYTHING!

They do not know who the new coach is yet. Nor do I, but I have my guess, as I am sure you do. I am just telling exactly what I know. They are not about to tell a recruit if they have their man in the bag. It would have already leaked.

You have to respect the nads he has though. Doing this his way will absolutely make him hero or zero.

The lack of a search committee is a good point as well.

I am now 101% Gruden :)

either way, i also think there's been plenty of work put on in on other candidates as well, and one way or the other, we're going to get a really good coach. not all may see it that way, and i get that.

but i don't think not getting gruden (or another big name hire) this time is going to be because we didn't put our best foot forward.

and we have next to nothing on actual information (a good thing) so we wait.

I think Gruden is signed, sealed & we're waiting on the delivery (to stay with the morning theme music!), but I'm curious ab people who say no way to Gruden (not necessarily you, more like Hyams, Basilio, et al). What work do you know has been done interviewing other candidates? We have had confirmation that Gruden & Currie have spoken.

i'm not going to derail this thread, so i won't say anything more than, yes, there are at least 3-4 guys that should get asked before you get to him. i don't know how realistic any of those 3-4 guys really are, but you ask them first. then if you get to that point on the list....

If you get to that point on the list, you have to examine YOUR process to see exactly where YOU are ****ing up. Because at that point, it's like the girlfriend when she breaks up with you saying "it's not you, it's me."

You know it actually IS you rather than her, despite what she said. And if it gets to that point, you go cheap on a Norvell hire at around $3.5 mil because you aren't paying good money to hire the head coach from the "Vandy of the SEC West."

Another analogy would be at closing time in a bar, and after all the hot girls have turned you down, you are faced with the choice of the bearded lady you know ain't going to get any prettier and the slightly nerdy chick that could be hot if she pulled off her glasses and let her hair down.
