At this point, I think one of two scenarios are at play:

1) Gruden has been signed, sealed, and SOON to be delivered, or

2) Gruden has been used all along as as a major smokescreen, directing attention away from another AWESOME hire that has not been mentioned or has had very little discussions involving his name.

I am all Gruden until it is not, but either way, I believe TENNESSEE will be great again with this hire.

I still think November 27th is the day of reckoning.

Like there's any choice.

well played.:eek:lol:

sure, i "want" gruden. i just look at it the same way as i "want" to win the lottery.

i don't buy lottery tickets either.:p

Just speculating here... but I think Bubba is close to somone in the PM and/or Fulmer circle. I think Bubba was personally there when the contract was signed on November 15th. He witnessed the contract being signed, then came here and told us that he'd see us in 10 years for the next search. How crazy would it be if Fulmer or Manning was actually Bubba...lol just speculation here.

AV never said that a contract wasn't signed. He said there is a sense of urgency to get this done as quickly as possible. Doesn't mean that the contract wasn't signed, it could just mean getting the timing of the announcement done as quickly as possible. JMO and thinking out loud to try and make some sense out of this.

AV did say, "but you can’t force someone’s hand purely with $$$. If it were that easy we would have someone already." To me, it sounds like he is alluding to no deal being signed yet.

It's #1. And even if it wasn't, there's no way UT would purposely use Gruden as a smokescreen. You never want your smokescreen to cause more excitement than your actual hire. That sets you up to do nothing but disappoint.

This could be a fun game...if all possible coaching candidates were trains....what would they look like?

I googled "types of trains", in an attempt to accept your game, however I've discovered all trains look the same to me, so I can't.

Morning! Hope today brings good news. I’m sure it’s been said but I woke up with this on my mind ........if UT lands Gruden, it may be the single greatest coaching hire “upset” in history. With the national media taking shots at us the last decade, saying we’re not a top 15 job, making fun of our coaches, and laughing about the notion that Gruden would coach here......nothing would give the entire non UT fan base the middle finger more. And I for one would buy a cake and sit in my living room floor in my undies and eat the whole damn thing !!

Kinda like Smokey standing over Debo saying “you got knocked the eff out!!!!”

You don't use John Gruden as a smoke screen for anything. That is why the silence makes me think 1. is a possibility.

That was the point I was trying to get at. Some things just don't add up

Okay, think about it this way...

If someone told you they had advance notice of the Powerball numbers, were rigging the game to make sure the numbers you wanted came up and even got the person running the machine in on it, wouldn't you take that chance?

It depends on who that hire is...there are coaches out there that would be a "what", "WOW", "how the hell did that happen" hire that have not been really discussed, at least from what I have seen...but still full GRUDE-ON for me!
