Gruden was never coming, and if we don’t get a coach like Mullen it will be much worse haha. You guys need a dose of reality. We will be finishing our worst season in history come Saturday and Currie will announce someone much worse than Mullen sometime after that.

Just curious and seriously, just a simple question. Are you illiterate?

What I don't understand is nobody is saying this about Gruden. Everyone is just assuming he will roll through the SEC year in and year out. He might, but he also might not. What if he stinks it up? Then what? I like Gruden and think he is a really really good coach. HOWEVER he still needs to earn the fat paycheck he would get to come to UT. Showing up and generating a buzz just won't cut it.

Is it really that hard to understand?

I BELIEVE right now that Gruden would be a successful coach, so I will support him from day 1.

If Gruden ends up not being good, my support for him will diminish over time.

I DO NOT BELIEVE Mullen, Frost, Norvell, ect would be good coaches, so I will not support them from day 1.

If they end up being good, my support for them will increase over time.

We don't know for a fact that ANYONE will be successful. Right now, all we have is our own perception. My perception is that Gruden is our best option.

There’s definitely something significant about this date. I wouldn’t just write it off

The only significance 10 Dec has in the world of Tennessee football is that it's 10 days before the start of the early signing window (20-22 Dec).

It is not tied to the end of our season (25 Nov). It is not tied to the end of the SEC season/CG (2 Dec). It is not tied to the end of the fall semester (classes end 5 Dec, exams 7-14 Dec, winter commencement 15 Dec).

It is simply a "not later than" date that someone pulled out of their 4th point of contact, Doug Mathews heard, and repeated on air.

That's it. Zero significance in the coaching hunt beyond that.

Perpetually. You may go now.

this would be ridiculous.

Tennessee does not need to be in the supporting cast of the "harbaugh brothers" coaching story.

besides, think about this.

this next hire could be the most important in Vols football history and it has to be not just a good coach --- it damn sure has to be the RIGHT coach.

John Harbaugh does not fit at UT.

Uhm...how does hiring the brother who consistently beat the other make US the supporting cast?

It may not in reality end up being Gruden, but I WILL NOT support a Mullen, Norvell, Campbell, Frost, Durkin type hire.

I. Won't. Do. It.

Sorry, I will reignite the apathy that the dismissal of Butch quenched, and move forward being just a football fan. I love my University, this City, and this State, but will not support what I feel to be another half-effort at hiring a lackluster coach.

They need to understand, the longer it takes to make a move to return us to some type of prominence, the longer it will take to garner the type of fan-support they desire.

Sorry for the self-important, overwrought personal rant. This is the last I'll say on the matter....it doesn't have to be my choice of coach, but it better be worthy.

Yes you will, and if you won’t, no once cares.

Since we would not know all the reasons why they had to hire a second tier coach, I would give a year + one more signing day to that new coach (Feb 2019). I think a year is fair because of the strength of Butch's recruiting classes. With those players a good coach should be able to field a decent team (8 wins or better), and we would also know how well the new coached recruited.

"Jimmy Hyams, interviewed this morning on 104.5 Nashville, said not to expect anything about our new HC until after the SEC Championship Game. He said Currie is going to The Virgin Islands with the men's basketball team all this week. Take that for what it's worth vis-a-vis the hiring process."..."Don't believe anything unless it comes from me"..Currie

You and I may be unsure, but there is no way in hell Currie is unsure.

Yes I agree. What i don't understand is, if he does't want the Job, he would at least say so. That at least leaves me a lot of hope. On the other hand if he lets the fans believe he is coming and doesn't, I will be done with him. I also think most of Vol Nation will feel the same way.:)

That’s what I was saying earlier. I think Dec. 10th is the deadline given, by the boosters, to have a coach in place. I heard this date being thrown around Saturday night on multiple occasions for it to not have any significance at all.

One thing I don’t believe that has been discussed enough is how public knowledge of all of Chip Kelly’s meetings is so rampant, and not one mention of us meeting with Chip Kelly. As a high profile opening don’t you think John Currie would at least have gotten a meeting with one of the hottest candidates out there?

I am dead set that this is because we have a coach locked up, or Currie is the greatest AD ever at keeping info locked up.

Curries most important job right now is the football hire. Everything else pairs in comparison. With the amount of pressure on him to get this right, I doubt he goes running off to the Bahamas if he didn't already have something lined up
