Change of plans today..off to Knoxville...I was going to pick my son up tomorrow and come right back.

I think an evening in God's country is better than a 13hr rountrip drive.

I hope Currie is going to the Bahamas to support our basketball team, he should be. Don’t forget, he is the leader of our Athletic Department, not just the football team. He is not on our timeline either, so Gruden or not, I don’t expect him to ignore the rest of UT Athletics while trying to find a football coach. None of us know where this search is at right now, but I’m pretty sure he has a timeline and it has nothing to do with us, and I don’t believe his going, or not going to the Bahamas with the basketball team affects our football coaching search. JMO.

I hear you, but in his press conference didn't he say finding the next football coach was his sole priority moving forward, until he found one? Idk, maybe we are reading into this too much, but taking a few days in the middle of the week, when the hire should be announced soonish, makes me think he's got someone locked up.

I am nor depending on what this board or the people who know nothing claim they know.... there are a couple of people I trust that are here that are still positive... the one person I have always trusted and talk to often in person has not changed his stand that it is 50%.. He was saying one month ago NO WAY Gruden was even being offered...

I believe the ball is in Gruden's hand and the longer he does NOT personally deny the rumors, the better our chances.

I'm not buying for a second that there will be any "clearing of the air" tonight on MNF.

He's had all of the opportunities in the world to do that before now.

And I would dare say that he will be on the radio somewhere today and could do the exact same thing.

That would be the biggest dagger to the heart, slap in the face, kind of thing he could do to volnation. To reject his courtier on national television for everybody to collectively laugh at us and make memes about. It would signal the end of the love for Gruden amongst vols fans

Not sure how Currie operates, but if it's me, I don't make that trip unless I KNOW my house is in order. I hope this is a good sign. Can you imagine the blow back on him if we get to his DEC 10 date and no coach has been announced?

I think Currie understands his job is about more than football, even though it is the cash cow of the university. He has to support hoops too.

I agree with a lot of this but the comparison of Butch to Mullen is a little unfair imo. Mullen would be a huge upgrade I think. As another stated State is the Vandy of the West. I am sure Penn State, a school that received just short of the death penalty, and their fans are happy they didn't think that about Franklin.

Lots of people said Butch would be a huge upgrade over Dooley.

We need a coach that will energize the fan base. That's the key. That's what Smart brought to GA.

A sad reality in this situation is that if David Blackburn was the AD, then Gruden would likely already be signed, sealed, and delivered.

Yesterday on Sports Source Jimmy said he's tired of "dealing with all this bull" regarding Gruden. He was fired up and I thought he wasn't gonna just say Bull lol.

Went to the game Saturday with my buddy in the AD. He confirmed that Gruden was contacted and that it was more of a formality. He said that he heard Currie wanted Gruden to not officially turn down the position, and that Gruden wanted to clear the air tonight on MNF. He said the AD knows that the Bucs are aiming Gruden and there is interest on both sides. That comment that Gruden made that he wanted to respect the coaches was geared towards Dirk Koetter.

Was your friend with another person when he got this info? And how many times has he received info when he's with another person?

I didn't say anything about putting him on a Mount Rushmore lol. Way better people than him to put there, just think in most peoples minds the way they seem to think he rockets towards the top of many fans list.

Wow everyone is way down this morning. I still have faith that Gruden is our next coach. My meter has been stuck on 90% for awhile now. I let some of the rumors get me down a couple weeks ago but have decided to ignore any rumors saying we are out on Gruden. I will believe he is our coach until someone else is standing at the podium. All in on Gruden still!

I respect you as a poster bcarter but to compare Franklin and Mullen is way out there. Franklin had Vanderbilt playing at a level that was unheard of for them and beating their rivals. He made Vanderbilt a threat. I don't think many teams are scared of MSU.

Of course, and he may have already made the commitment months ago. If the FB coaching hire was still very fluid, more coaches to be interviewed, etc., I can see him not making the trip. I think him making the trip is good and tells us he's got a pretty good handle on it and quite likely has his guy in place.

And on the cheap. IIRC, Smart is making less than 4 mill. a year. Georgia definitely got their guy without too much hassle because he's a bulldog and he wanted it.

I am grateful to butch for his salesmanship and ability to get us and recruits to buy in again and bring us up from where we were . That being said that has been used now , he was “ Hell out of the gate , but not much for stamina “ . You can’t follow that with another same or close to same and the records Bear this out that they are close to same coach . That’s why at this point in time we are at a crossroads and why a Splash or big name coach is needed . I don’t believe where we are another game managing coach will do anything but keep us around 8-4 ish . All Jmho

Until Atlanta Vol comes back and says Gruden isn't coming, or I hear from Gruden/ Currie directly I still have faith.
