Official Gruden Thread 38

I've just caught up after church, and I'm actually really excited about what AV said. Many are interpreting it as Plan A and Plan B. I don't.

In business and in life, I tend to set 30 day, 60 day, 90 day, 1 year, 5 year, and sometimes 10 year goals and plans. My best guess is that these extremely successful business people do as well. I read it as "we have a clear path for the next 5 (or 7 or 10) years, and a clear path after that (coach in waiting or the like).

To me, "plan" means something I intend to do. "Path" means something I am doing.

Obviously, I am simply interpreting like everyone else, but I think he would have said "plan A" and "plan B" if that is what he meant.

I think his point #6 as well as the “some won’t be comfortable” part was a bit concerning for some on this thread.

One can obviously read it and interpret it however they wish. I guess it depends on how you want to interpret it. It seemed fairly clear to me.

Is anyone else on mobile and having the site reboot on them? I have tried to type a rather lengthy post 4 times now, and it's gotten me each time.

Oh, and good afternoon, VN!

I just don’t want the AD to have to sell us a coach.

They’re trying to buy us the one we want but he doesn’t want to come... if he did it would be done!

I really think they are doing all they can, hope Gruden decides we are worthy of him 🙄

I'm never sure why Chip Kelly keeps getting tied to the UCLA job. He's not a west coast person and UCLA would pay about 1/2 what other big jobs pay. He's my #2 behind Gruden, so of course it appears UT isn't even giving him a sniff.

I think some of his alleged quirks fit in on the left coast

I could see him falling into a situation like Strong, similar demands at Texas and Tennessee that they couldn’t live up to...

That WAS NOT Strong's problem. My son's friend, an OC, had friends on Strong's staff at Texas. One of the staff members told him before Strong's first year was over that Strong was "in over his head". Gruden will not be "in over his head". He will be in control.

Deal with it.gif

Before any other name mentioned not Gruden give me Kiffin Brohm is extremely over rated and shouldn’t be mentioned and Bobo.

My homie SFD offers another reasonable interpretation of what AV meant by "plans," or long-term program plans.

AV was being intentionally vague, due to his stated intent to not step on an announcement. When he wants to be specific, he is, as he was regarding plane tracking.

He already told us, he is not going to do or say ANYTHING to jeopardize the process or his role with the University. He can't be more clear than he is being.

Exactly. I for one am not disheartened by anything he stated today.

One thing to bear in mind is AV doesn’t post in the Mullen, Kiffin, Fuente, etc threads. He posts in the Gruden thread.

I haven't paid specific attention to your posts so I can only assume that you see a negative connotation. My guess is that these extremely successful business people recognize that our last 2 (Or 3) coaches have been reactive decisions instead of deliberate choices. If I'm investing that kind of money if like some assurance that thought and intention has been put into it instead of reactions. Especially if I have footed the bill for these reactive choices.

I love that Strong is prospering at South Florida. I like him as a coach, and I think he will move to a larger school again, and I am hoping he has continued success.

Ok wait up... how is defining what Plan A or Plan B would be inside a Gruden thread do anymore jeopardizing lol

What if Atlanta Vol has been asked to slow down Grudenmania after the way Currie was harassed last night? That was unbelievable behavior.

I think that is the case. These Gruden threads are gonna be bombarded with mis-direction, etc.....I've resolved to be patient and wait. Not that I have a choice. I'm not wavering. It's Gruden to the hill....Sooon!!

Except that he accepted our proposal and then left us at the alter!

Monday Night Football analyst Jon Gruden has met with athletic director John Currie about the vacancy. This was a procedural move, and it helped Currie with factions of Tennessee fans and boosters who have long been obsessed with Gruden.

College football coaching search news: New notes on loads of teams - SBNation.com

That's hilarious. #1 - I don't believe this crap for a second. However, #2 - If Currie is stupid enough to think that making a token gesture of meeting with Gruden about the position is enough to satisfy the fan base, then he's in for a VERY rude awakening if he ends up hiring a coach other than Gruden.
