Except for that whole time he coached at Oregon and won big before heading to the NFL.

He's spent 21 years coaching on the East coast and 7 on the West coast in 28 seasons of coaching. One of those 7 out West was in 1988 at Nevada as a strength coach.

The highest paid gig in the Pac 10 is around 4 million a year last I saw. California schools are notorious for not spending money on coaches. He could go to UCLA, but it would be a head scratching decision.

I've just caught up after church, and I'm actually really excited about what AV said. Many are interpreting it as Plan A and Plan B. I don't.

In business and in life, I tend to set 30 day, 60 day, 90 day, 1 year, 5 year, and sometimes 10 year goals and plans. My best guess is that these extremely successful business people do as well. I read it as "we have a clear path for the next 5 (or 7 or 10) years, and a clear path after that (coach in waiting or the like).

To me, "plan" means something I intend to do. "Path" means something I am doing.

Obviously, I am simply interpreting like everyone else, but I think he would have said "plan A" and "plan B" if that is what he meant.

I'm honestly surprised more of you haven't interpreted AV's comments on "plan a, plan b" as referring to the timing of an announcement rather than the hire itself.

AV didn't provide detail, because he said early on that he would respect the process and not step on any announcement.

Just $.02.

Was it orange pill that said JG wanted the announcement to be November 28th, and the AD November 21st. I'm thinking they agreed on the 28th.

I don't understand how you can think he's talking about timing in that statement

I don't understand how you can think he's speaking about anything directly. He doesn't say what the plan is for. If one assumes, as I do, that an agreement is already signed, then he has to be talking about something else that is being "planned." Announcement would then be the logical fit.

I am not insisting that you make the same assumptions that I do. Just working through the logical flow.

Why would that be a head scratching decision? UCLA could be a monster with the right coach.

does apevol have an agent ? if UT football is REALLY going to be restored, then HE is the right man to do it ! this Gruden roller coaster needs to be over.

there needs to be a serious "HIRE APEVOL" campaign started ASAP !

send those emails and make those phone calls to Currie.

I just don’t want the AD to have to sell us a coach.

...And you can have Chad Morris for the low, low price of $3.4 million dollars a year!

What about this little beauty? Jeff Brohm is 46-years-young, from Louisville Kentucky and loves beef brisket. What can I do to put you in a Jeff Brohm today?

Although I personally do not think he was talking about timing, that could be a possibility and matches exactly with what Orange Pill has said.

He said he was comfortable with the other plan but not all would be. I'm sorry but if we have Gruden then I don't think many really care when he's announced, as long as we have him.

Even AV's comment about "I know all won't be comfortable" with the plans, could refer to people wanting an early announcement as opposed to a late one.

Yes it's ambiguous, but let's not pretend it can't just as easily be interpreted one way as the other. :)

I've been reading your responses. I try and look at all sites of things, but I didn't interpret AV that way. I could be wrong.

Lost in all this, just my observation: as much as everyone seems to think AD/AA care about ONLY money/NOT being a winning program, why on earth do so many of these same people/posters think there is no way Currie wants to hire Gruden? Gruden would generate more revenue as HC of the Vols than probably anyone in the world except (maybe) Peyton. If money/revenue is the main concern no one else would even be worth considering!

I think that’s a bit of a stretch. Could that have been what he meant? Sure. However I think the totality of his comments add up to the deal still being in progress and not “done.”

You've stated a fair position. Reasonable minds can differ. I'm just explaining how I logically harmonize AV's statements with what I believe to be a hard fact.

Lol but you get what I mean.

Agreed. I read it the same way. Never got the impression that he wasn't possible anymore but that Currie has a great back up plan if he doesn't come.
This. I also think like AV was saying, it’s not a money issue. I’m sure there will be some good family discussions around the thanksgiving table this week.
