Official Gruden Thread 38

I said it wouldn't surprise me if we get something special on MNF. I referenced the trucks at Cedar Bluff and suggested the possibility that pre-production video was shot. Digital video doesn't expire on a certain date, MNF can have something special for Gruden whether it's 11/20 or 11/27, or whenever.

And I believe I was clear enough that my opinion on future events was just that.

Without a leak from someone? I have my doubts.

Present! :)

Lots of catch-up, but I think I'm there.

Where's knuck? Haven't seen him since before the Calhouns stuff. Do we need to put him on a milk carton?

Atlanta Vol: guys, I'm super flattered that people are putting me in the same sentence with AV, but please don't. He's a true insider. I am not. About what he said, as usual everyone has their interpretation. Here's my own.

1. Don't track planes. The clearest thing he said. Easy peasy.

2. Implication that the delay in an announcement is due to the employee, not employer. I do NOT take this as evidence of lack of a deal. Lots of reasons for Gruden to want to announce later rather than sooner have been discussed. AV simply says ball is in coach's court.

3. There's a plan A and a plan B. But plans for what? Hiring a coach? Announcing a coach? Taking a dump? I've heard Russians have a plan for that. AV does not clarify what the plans are for. So let's not read into that.

AV's comments make me feel less certain of an announcement today, but as I said yesterday, reasonable people have different opinions on announcing. I thought yesterday (and still do) that an announcement today makes sense, but nobody at UT asked for my opinion. It could be that Currie is in control of when to announce, or it could be Gruden is. I think it would be reasonable to infer from AV's comment that Gruden is the person with the deciding vote on timing of announcement.

Thanks for your thoughts on this!

With all the trolling Kiffin has been doing I think we can safely assume he isn't even an option. After what AV said today maybe the announcement will come after Vandy, but I'm hoping we hear something about a presser today to line up with what exile was saying last night.

There wont be a presser today..I would think you would have the new hire there and our man is in Seattle.
You cant have a announcement this week until after the Vandy game unless you are hiring a coach not currently coaching a team.

There will absolutely 100 percent not be a press conference today. At the very most would be leaks.

I like you Exile, and I’m all in on Gruden...but it did come off like a prediction.

Your explanation of your posts saying “done deal” vs AV’s posts today center around the “announcement.” I think AV was referencing the deal itself. I think others agree with me on that.

Jon Gruden does, in fact, own 21+ acres I Jefferson County TN (Dandridge) but it undeveloped land. Even then, it' a long drive from UT.

Gruden
Patterson
Peterson
Kelly

Then
Frost

After that, mediocre at best for the next ten years

Peterson definitely isn't leaving Washington or the left Coast. I have to be missing something on Frost. He may be the 2nd coming but he hasn't even been a HC for 2 full years and had a losing season his first one. Plus he coach's in a non power 5 conference. Plus he's most likely headed to Nebraska. So many unproven as far as coaching options outside of Gruden,Patterson and Jimbo. We could finally get lucky with non HR hires like Georgia or other teams who hired unproven HC's. Odds say we are due to get it right this time. Hell it took Ala 5 tries to get it right with Saban after Stallings so it's not easy replacing legendary and beloved coach's. All I know is Currie has to get this hire right and don't envy his position at all. I guarantee he didn't wanna make a football coaching hire his first year on the job.

Dont agree with a lot of what Clay says, but he is spot on!

I am all for Gruden, but have also been open to Mullen. The one thing I like about Mullen is despite bringing up subpar recruiting classes (Avg rank of 29th according to Rivals in 2014-2017) he still got more conference wins than Jones (who averaged the 10th best recruiting class via Rivals during the same timeframe) That implied to me Mullen's ability to develop talent, which I believe is something Jones consistently lacked. Give Mullen the power T in recruiting pitches, and suddenly you might have a good balance of recruiting and development.

Now having said all that, I have not done the same research on Sumlin in terms of figuring out what his recruiting classes have been so you might be able to make a similar argument. But I believe recruiting as Tennessee's coach will be easier the recruiting as Miss St. coach.

But since this is the Gruden thread, let's just go get Chucky and put the discussion to bed.

This morning on the 104.5 in Nashville Doug Mathews said the recruits had been told 12/10 is the day. Don't know where that info came from but he put it out there.

OK back to my fun loving self. I seem to have upset some folks which was never my intention at all. So I'll just go back to haVing a good time in here and keep my mouth shut. Sorry to anyone I upset.

I could go back and pull what I said, but it's kind of pointless. I think I made it clear enough, especially when I was going back and forth on it with VFL92.

Regarding AV, I'm going to read what he said a third time and see if something jumps out at me.

that is pretty far out.. 10 days for the staff to get early signees?

edit: When is the dead period?
