Official Gruden Thread 38

Like everything else, it's a crapshoot. You never know. I don't see Harbaugh being fired next year unless it completely falls off the rails. Too much invested. Probably an insane buyout. Plus, if you fire an alum, who are they going to get?

True, same could be said for Gruden, if he fails, where does Tn turn?

But what if your parents cheap out at the last minute. Sure, they've got the money but they think it's a waste when this one is 'just as good.'

Actually, maybe I should revise that...

More like putting your kids up for adoption when you give them the money to go buy what they want and they come back with the grocery store quarter machine robot and try to pocket the rest.

Wearing UT shirt down here at breakfast in FL . 2 people from TN just came up and asked about Tennessee. I just said waiting on Gruden and the fact that we have the worst team I have ever seen at UT.

That is almost exactly what happened to me. My neighbors live 2 doors down are from Knoxville. I saw my neighbor this morning outside and he saw me and he just shooked his head and said "pitiful". LOL He asked me if we are getting Gruden and I said "SOON"!

To me the email lacks the professionalism you would expect to see, especially since the content is supposed to be sent to "high power boosters". Is JC supposed to be John Currie? If so why use initials only?

Don't get me wrong, I want to inject the grumours directly into my blood stream, but some of them are just down right laughable.

I agree..it was the last grumor from yesterday that needed addressed..the email and calhoun's were the two big events yesterday

Agreed. However in this type of negotation the potential employee holds the cards...not the employer. So if that employee wants x...he will get x or more because he knows that employer wants said employee.

In my world (business not personal) if i want something...I will pay for it...regardless if it is overvalued at the time or not...if the expected long term value could be more beneficial than price paid for said services.

If this is the case, then kudos to UT for pursuing this with everything they have.

Well, both sides are the recipient of this going mainstream. Is that good or bad? Or there is no bad publicity...

I think at some point it becomes bad. I compare it to a proposal. The longer you think about it the more the proposer feels unwanted. May be a bad analogy but what will vol fans think of JG if he continues to let this go unanswered and it comes out that we offered everything and he still said no. He loves the attention now because it’s good. That may not be the case if this turns out bad.

I don’t like him but someone brought up that name so there...I’m about done hoping for Gruden, with the money being thrown out there I think it’s embarrassing for the poor student athletes who’d play for a money grubbing ego maniac who supposedly “loves” the vols, give me a break I’d love Alabama for 10 mil a year

I understand all of that but don't we have to hope for more than Norvell?

I never want 'this is the best I can get.'

I think the ship has sailed. Alot of backtracking. Not a done deal as has been speculated. Jon may just want way to much that we simply can't give him. I think we will hear some leaks about other coaches now.

That isn't always the magic formula. Butch and Dooley both wanted to be here.

We need more than a warm body that is ecstatic they are failing upward.

That's not what I'm saying. We can get good coaches that want to be here, just not the names we want (Gruden, Patterson, etc).

If you get a coach that doesn't wanna be here but is here cause you threw boat loads of cash at them, chances are they are not going to do the best job possible.

A Gruden who is not happy here might not be as good as a Mullen or Frost who love being here.

It's a post game tour according to the flyer I saw...$39 tix

Having done the complete tour, I can tell you it is well worth it. The UT facilities are incredible! My wife arranged it for my birthday a couple years ago which was way cool!

It appears to me that Atlanta Vols posts today have similarities to other “insiders’” posts.

However, it also appears that the Gruden deal is still in progress and not a done deal as others have stated.

I had my phone all charged up today and all...

I thought the same...going by what a couple of trusted long time posters had said...

I was telling some folks last night about the generosity of AtlantaVol. They couldn’t believe it. They were blown away. They just couldn’t believe someone from a online forum gave away tickets let alone amazing tickets to a game to a bunch of people he didn’t even know.

These people are pretty well off themselves and I really feel like it hit a spot with them. For the rest of the night they talked about how maybe they should start doing more for others, and maybe do a big Christmas dinner for their community. It was really great to see.

As I said on my first post, I’ve lurked here for many years and you get some A holes here and there but this is a bunch of good people on here. Thank you ATL for giving some families a once in a lifetime experience.

Anybody that took the time to use common sense could tell that wasn't gruden at calhouns yesterday..Sum people just take stuff and run with it.

And if that really was Sexton at the table with Peyton yesterday as some have surmised, then fork it. Lost to the abyss for at least 5-10 more years.

I would think that's part of the on-going negotiations...provided there have been negotiations.

A huge contract will most-likely have a huge buyout...potentially on both sides. What if Gruden decides in 2-3 years he's rather be in the NFL?

Or, as you mentioned, what if he fails?

AV, I hope everyone working on this are able to hit the pause if they need to. They deserve some family time for the Holiday. I'm sure they've logged countless hours on this endeavor..maybe even more than some of us on VN..😂
