Official Gruden Thread 38

Since no one wants to talk off line, I am good with that. Again I am not off the Gruden train, just think the beav is not who he portrays.

I am going quail hunting this week with a few ex FB coaches including one who won a NC at UT. I usually don't ask a lot of questions, but one ex coach likes his bourbon after the hunt and tends to ask a lot of uncomfortable questions of the others. Usually we all just laugh, but now I will pay attention.

I thought it was written in his contract that he must make an attempt at finding another job? (And getting hired somewhere would reduce what we pay him)

If that's true, then how does turning down jobs work?

A theory I haven't seen:

We have inherently, systematically linked Bubba and Beav to the securing of Jon Gruden and his services. Their mission and motives are directly in line with Gruden being the end result. Ok?

Beav and Bubba (predominantly) have dropped hints at what their roles are, and how their influence will unilaterally benefit the UTAD, and more succinctly, the football program. What if their cryptic clues and "meetings" were only related to appeasing the AA, thus eliminating Beverly and her utter disdain towards anything involving balls (maybe even men..??... ok, athletics, people)? For instance, Bubba's gif from the other night could mean his "work" (VC, securing funds for the AA, removing Bev's influence, etc.) is done. Not that Gruden is a go, but that he's done his part to ensure UT has no excuse for not getting him.

I believe this is where most have made the mistake about Bubba and Beaver. They have no clue about Gruden and his day-to-day functions, but they know what to do to get a coach of this caliber, especially when administrative hurdles higher than Clingman's Dome exist. I believe they have done this, and the ball is now in Currie's and Gruden's court.

TIFWIW

I like the new perspective, but this thing is sewn up tight on all sides. No one puts that kind of effort into making sure the academic side is on board without first making sure that Gruden is on board.

You think Kelly is worth $10Mil.? Really? He might be, but I haven't seen anything that would warrant that salary. His offense won't be enough in the SEC. Everyone is running it and it is being defended much better than it was 5-6 years ago. Sumlin runs it as well or better than Kelly and he's on the hot seat. I would rather have Sumlin because he can handle people. Kelly can't.

Sumlins problem isn't offense
It's Defense and whatever is happening off the field.

In terms of our announcement, I could only speculate. Are you asking me to speculate? Because I do not have hard info on timing. :)

By all means, speculate away sir. From your info, would be interesting to know if a Chip Kelly hiring at UF would expedite our announcement in any way. Granted, you said it could happen today, tomorrow, or after Vandy. All within a week from now. Surely UF actions prob couldn’t do anything to speed up our announcement decision any faster?

Who agrees if we don’t announce Gruden this week then we probably don’t have a chance of getting him? But I believe we hear something SOON!

Where do you hunt at?

I think we need to detach Gruden from it and think of a proven commodity. These steps, IMHO, had to be taken to secure a coach of his caliber, regardless if he's the end result or not.
