Official Gramps' Memorial Eternal OT Thread

I want to see them make it mini-playoffs.

whatever the top 4 non playoff bowls are each get a "champion", based on 4 or 8 teams playing in a series of games to determine the "champion" of the bowl. the early rounds are hosted by the small bowls, and at least when a team wins its easier to say they are the champion than winning 1 game.

either that or institute a relegation style system.

either way would make bowls more meaningful.

Pretty much agree with that. I just don't know how you play the league championship game without the loser being penalized over the next couple of teams not playing for the league championship. Although this year TAMU deserves to be penalized more if they lose the the SECCG than the teams with a couple of losses since TAMU hasn't played anybody to speak of.

I'm also not a fan of automatically including teams from lesser conferences over more deserving teams from major conferences in the playoffs. Again that's the strength of schedule issue over straight W/L record. That inclusiveness process may work in BB, but it's just not appropriate in FB due to the physicality. There's far more separation in FB conference play than BB conference play. BB was never intended to be a contact sport, and it should have been policed to keep it that way.

To a great extent I simply see the money and especially the marketing money aspect corrupting a lot of good stuff and overturning historical reason behind traditions.

Lol. For sure. If you don’t have that handy maybe some Mercurochrome.

The most painful part of my second aortic valve replacement was the surgical prep. The valve and catheter go in through the groin. The people doing the prep got way too far ranging with the cleaning fluids, and there are just places that alcohol based products are never meant to go. I was in ICU begging for something topical to cool the fire - my wife's comment when she looked was "Well, they are bright red."

Just reading bowl projections. I really really wish the bowls would go back to original names and forget things like the "Flakey Potato Chip Bowl" - and that there would be fewer bowls, so getting there means something again.
the pop tarts bowl is awesome when they sacrifice one of the pop tart characters into the giant toaster.

Razor knife sitting on the floor. I didn’t see it and put my full weight on it. It looked like a crime scene almost immediately.
Thanks

Oh. Not as bad as the angle grinder to the leg from last year. View attachment 792356

I have actually done both of those (kinda). Buried a razor knife blade to the hilt in my wrist...and was on the roof sanding bondo on a piece of old fascia that the homeowner didnt want to replace so I repaired it. I stepped on the grinder cord on the roof and it pulled the grinder down to my thigh. Cut thru my jeans but fortunately just took a small chunk of flash and didnt need stitches. I did have to go get sewed up from the razor knife on the inside of my wrist though. It was spraying blood from the artery if I didn't keep pressure on it. I generally live by the "10 bone" rule: if it aint 10 or more stitches or a broken bone, i aint paying for a doctor. There are some exceptions though such as ligament/tendon damage or inability to stop bleeding...

Pops recent heart cath/scope went in thru his wrist while awake. Outpatient. I thought it would be like yours. Amazing technology

I've had heart caths both ways. The wrist is definitely easier. Even has a device that goes around the wrist and they ease pressure in stages after the procedure; it's easier on everyone than manually holding pressure and the patient having to remain flat and still for what seems like forever. Apparently now it comes down to what is being inserted. The new valve and left atrial appendage (LAA) closure were femoral. The stents were done through the wrist.

The LAA device was interesting; the concept is to close off the LAA which is an appendage off the atrium. It's an ideal location for clot formation due to irregular blood movement in the appendage. It may still be a trial procedure at this point; you may be in the group with the device or the group on blood thinner. In my case I had a major bleeding problem on the blood thinner and got bumped into the group to get a Watchman device. It didn't work because of my LAA configuration - the surgeon told me she tried three different sizes and none would hold. A few months later I was offered the chance to try a different kind (Amplatzer Amulet); the procedure went without a hitch. About 4 years later there's been no problem and no blood thinners involved; I'm a happy camper.

Through the wrist caths aren't fun but better than through the groin. I've had a few transesophageal echocardiograms (TEE). The probe goes down the throat for a different ultrasound of the heart; PITA, but at least you are sedated. This is why I said in an earlier post to you that heart problems are far better to deal with than other issues like cancer. As an engineer, I look at the heart as a mechanical/hydraulic device; you can fix that kind of thing. It's still risky business, but preferable to a lot of other things.

Just pulled the truck into the garage after driving from the work parking lot one last time. Just threw my computer bag in the chair in the bedroom one last time (meeting my sponsor for lunch when I get back from TN to hand it back he’s off this week). Just took my badge lanyard off one last time. I am fairly certain this is it. If I wind up working there again something has gone horribly wrong. I’m more than happy to just let my protégés have the con from here on out.

Thx. Retired as a full time employee in 2022 and after a year went back part time for 2.5 years. I’m beyond ready to hang it up for good
We hired a retiree that took early retirement at 62, came back this year at 67 and plans on working 2 - 3 years, then going back to full time retirement.
