Saban. He raised the bar by which everyone else is judged. People think coaches that are short of his standard are mediocre.

Mostly I think people use their emotions brain instead of their business brain because it’s their favorite sport.

For example everyone thinks Kiffen is elite.

Tennessee and Ole Miss to be fair are two completely different jobs with completely different brands, budget, footprints, resources, etc....

The NIL reporting is all over the place but they are still at/behind all the big boys and on par with Arky with $$$$. Other than Walter Nolan ( who we passed on for other reasons), they havent got the 7 figure 5* transfer. They couldnt get Nolan and keep Judkins. They have built their roster with that next level of transfer portal guy.


When everyone is paying, deciding factors for players still go back to natural recruiting footprints, facilities, brands, etc. All of these Ole Miss is bottom half in the SEC.

It's easier for an Ole Miss to compete than 10 years ago, but these arent the same jobs. Its why 9-3 at Ole Miss gets you raises and adoration and 9-3 gets you fired at Georgia/LSU...

I actually dont think Kiff is the coach to take that would take UF to the Meyer/Spurrier levels.

The point remains.
I would not want Kiffen fired with his record which is slightly less than Hypel, almost identical….if he were at Tennessee. Hypel is at the top of what any team can expect in this era of football. I’d argue changing coaches produces worse results 9-10 times. And it takes time for the change over.
Especially since absolutely nobody can name the guy that can be this Messiah of Tennessee football.


Edit: and you’re wrong about ole Miss. that place is as good a life as any for a college age football player.

those days are gone. And schools that don’t realize it are destined to hit the down hill slide pretty quickly.

You can win at ole Miss as easily as anywhere now.
Actually it’s going to make those “get you fired for 9-3” jobs less desirable. The jobs will have to throw around “grantee contracts “ to get guys. And let’s face it. Those guys will run out of money eventually too.

The cheese has moved in football. Even Vandy can make the playoffs now.

You know what would be typical of Kiffen…..

He has an updated offer from ole Miss to stay. He very well could have told the ole Miss AD he’s staying. He could have already signed it and left it on his desk. Hurting Florida would help him in that scenario. So string Florida along as long as possible. The longer they’re without a coach the better for him

I am as pro Hype as a reasonable grown man can be. Very rarely criticize him and have never called for a single member of his staff to be fired. Not Pope, Banks, or Martinez...who are all top20 nationally at their position IMO. I agree with you that theres no better option to hire.

** will say Banks is a much better Dcoordinator than Safety coach. We have a half dozen Safeties at UT every year and that position has been one of weakness more years than not at UT. Banks is a top 20 DC. Not sure hes top 20 with Safeties

Gotta remember Bama was doing NIL before NIL became a thing - at least a legal thing. When Saban saw things shifting in an unfavorable way, he exited the scene. There will be some teams that for the time being manage to buck the system; but with NIL and the portal, once great teams and coaches "without peer" are in for hard times. This year's coaching turnover is likely just a taste of what's coming. The next kick in the head is going to be the thing with scholarship limits and no walk-ons if it comes to be. That ruling if finalized means that there is absolutely no amateurism in collegiate sports - and absolutely no reason for collegiate teams - let the pros take care of feeder teams like baseball does now.

Another light came on yesterday when the announcers mentioned the players like Thomas who started at NMSU and then later finally seeing Mac and Merk getting to play. Watch for teams more and more to raid the portal for the next skilled players and depend less and less on recruiting new talent - haven't got time to get them up to speed when they might not even pan out like our last wonder QB. Hard to evaluate Mac and Merk when all they get is garbage time and without the top supporting cast, but they look a long long way from ready.

We should absolutely have a fair conversation about player development and coaching. But unfortunately that’s not possible with mast as they have too much emotional investment to have a rational conversation.

Take the 98 national championship team. We had 3 games that should have been loses that year but the luck of the bounce went our way. With the new nil era and playoff system the luck of winning a national championship is only going to be more prevalent. Let’s say Ga wins this year. There is one play Vs Tennessee and one vs ole miss, that if they go a different way, Ga doesn’t make the playoffs.

It's looking more and more like recruiting is going to lose a lot to transfers. Don't be surprised to see more recruits to "other" teams with transfers to the top tier teams if they develop. The unrestricted portal is or probably will be a bigger disrupter than NIL. If coaches have to produce right damn now to keep the job, it's hard to see them wasting time on potential talent when they can raid the portal. Whether Kiffen is a good coach or not, he probably has seen the light on where to get talent in a hurry. The other example maybe Clemson not playing the portal game until they found out.

Again the old freshmen teams had merit. Recruits got a chance to adapt, play at a higher level, and be evaluated before hitting the big time. New doesn't mean improved if done for greed or expediency and without wisdom.

The equipment the Dr. Used at that new facility was brand new and about the diameter of a regular catheter like the ones I had inserted for my back surgery. You know...maybe half the diameter of a drinking straw from McDonald's. I was so pissed off man. So basically I was badly injured, permanently damaged and all that goes along with that simply because the Urologist my primary care doctor referred me to used an old piece of equipment from last century or something when much better devices are readily available. I still bitch about it yearly every time I see my primary once a year and if he EVER so much as makes a smart comment back to me about it I am gonna take his front teeth out right there in his practice. I can afford to catch a charge at this point in my life for beating his azz and fully intend to given the opportunity.

So long story short:

Bladder cancer is quite deadly and has some terrible outcomes/ prognosis rates. IF you have to get scoped, make sure to discuss the exact equipment that will be used and when it was made before agreeing to the procedure. Apparently there is quite a disparity in outcomes based on quality of care and especially which equipment is shoved through the tiny hole in the end of your junk and up into your bladder. Learn from my misfortune and avoid catastrophe.

Never ever go to a urologist unless you are into S&M and extreme exhibitionism. Seems like everybody in the office is hands on and several want to insert things that hurt.
