Official Gramps' Memorial Eternal OT Thread

I’ve been saying for years there are only 2 logical ACC additions to the SEC:

UNC & UVA

That’s it. That’s the list.
Geographically, Culturally, Resources, Brands, Academics (what little that matters).

None of the others usually mentioned (Clem, Miami, Tech, FSU) bring the additional tv markets that would come with Virginia & North Carolina.

UVA makes no sense. They bring almost no eyeballs to the TV

As a UVA grad, I don’t think the school is a cultural fit in the SEC. They’re the definition of a wine and cheese crowd. For many people at the school, lacrosse is more important than football.

Yea, that’s fair. Not a perfect fit, but more so than a Miami or Missouri.

They’ve never had a powerhouse Football program. But they could with their recruiting footprint and history of athletic excellence in other sports.

They just need the resources. SEC money.

Put a winning Football team on the field and I bet you they find time for it.

In what way would Miami be a better cultural fit?

It’s not really about the eyeballs. It’s about the markets. Miami markets overlap with central Florida markets.

Virginia brings more markets.

It’s about the markets. The money.

No current sec school will permit another school from their state joining. And the presidents have each others back on this and will block. If it isn't going to get a media company to payout more then no one wants it

Exactly. Clemson, FSU, Miami ain’t gettin in. Or at least highly unlikely.

Re procrastination: Are you worried if you "put yourself out there" nobody will want to hire you?

Maybe a little, i am pretty good at what I do though. Get me around a set of blueprints and I can find the relevant info quickly and determine what materials, labor etc is needed and trouble shoot the designs based on previous experience. Theres a great deal of copy/paste in plans these days and the details or UL assemblies sometimes dont meet the architect or structural engineers requirements stated elsewhere in the plans. Thats what a lot of precon meetings, my study time, and subsequent RFIs are all about. Often theres a 3rd party water intrusion expert or owners 3rd party structural engineer brought in after the plans are nearly or entirely complete and the designs in the drawings wont meet the requirements of those inspectors. I think I can show my ability and understanding given a hands on opportunity to demonstrate, but Ive never been in this position before and don't know if I will get an opportunity like that vs someone just looking at my resume. I don't have a resume either...need to put one together. I think part of it also is indecision about the future. Knowing that if I do take a job working for someone else that i will probably quit them next year when they ask me to come back to my old job. My buddy has been great to work for. I really havent had a boss in the traditional sense for 15 years and i guess i got spoiled. He would stop by my project once every month or two and have lunch with me. Most times never even set foot in the apartment buildings. He knows if i had a problem or something that i wasnt sure about that I would call him because we have been like brothers for 32 years. Its great being able to do my own thing and come and go as I please. I dont see anyone else being as good to me so that gives me pause. Maybe I am being stupid man I don't know. Theres no instruction book to read...so i gotta figure this out on my own. Will keep doing side work for now.

My wifes 2021 Explorer overheated today because the water pump is shot...figured no big deal bexause i have changed several pumps on trucks and vans. Feeaking Ford moved the water pump inside the engine. Stupidest crap ever and it really pisses me off. Instead of $150 and me doing it myself , she got it towed to a decent mechanic and they wanted $2300. It takes a day and a half for a licensed mechanic to change it in a garage bay with all professional tools etc. She got another estimate over $2k. Theres a retired mechanic in our church thats gonna do it for $1500 thankfully. Thats SO damn ridiculous. You have to take the engine apart to get to the internal water pump...rather than having it mounted externally on the front of the engine and turned by the serpentine belt like every other Ford ever made. They should be ashamed of themselves for that. Ridiculous. Its intentional...they want to make it so that you can't do anything for yourself because they want you to pay the dealerships to fix it. Great timing too lmao.

Hang in there. Keep your head up.

Egyptian building techniques is a fascinating subject. Wanted to share something about the LIDAR. Lidar uses laser pulses and reflections for detailed mapping. It does not penetrate the ground. I don't know how lidar can look under pyramids unless it is actually placed under them.
Reckon they’ll find any mummies with big 1970’s Dr. J size afros?

Same thing happened to my 2015 about a year and a half ago. $2,300. It’s now my daughter’s car and has 215k on it. $2,300 really sucked, but it doesn’t burn any oil or have any leaks
