Official Gramps' Memorial Eternal OT Thread

I could see myself enjoying the fishing and fresh seafood but on balance I'm with you.
I don't see the appeal of ocean fishing. My BIL took me out in the Gulf of America, and it was three hours of shear hell, followed by bobbing around for 4 hours only to repeat the ride out. If that is 'fun', count me out.

I've had some of that kind of fishing and only had one kinda bad experience. LOTS of fishing needn't be way offshore. (Flyfishing for tarpon is a bucket list item for me) Then there's a huge amount of freshwater fishing, especially if you like big largemouth.

The Florida strain of largemouth get absolutely huge and are fun to catch. Here in Texas the have a harvest and breeding program where TPWD takes possession of 13+ pounders for breeding and provides the angler with a free replica mount. We have a very well funded and managed bass population to enjoy fishing for.

I have relatives in TX and actually fished Fork a couple times. (no really big ones caught) The ShareLunker program has been a big success down there.

At my Florida house there is a canal (glorified drainage ditch) in front of the property. It has tarpon in it. Up until a bunch of guys came in and started cast netting the life out of it, you could have checked that item off and walked to the fridge when you ran out of beer.

The BIL loves that offshore stuff. He can have it.

Fork is absolutely full of stuff like this that you can see.

Of course there's plenty that you can't see and those are the real issue.
I describe driving a high performance bass boat at speed like driving down a pothole riddled interstate at 70mph and not being able to see the potholes. It defines logic. Yet … I do it every chance I get.

Yes, you guys are dumb.

“The boat hit either a submerged object that was floating or a stump in shallow water, that’s still undetermined and under investigation, but once that occurred, the motor broke off of its bracket and landed in the operator’s seat on top of the operator,” said Officer Landrum.

That motor was 700 pounds with a prop, according to Landrum, who is investigating the accident.
