Official Gramps' Memorial Eternal OT Thread

Jesse Perry is looking good, and Sanders..throw in Sham, Warren, etc..We have some OL depth now..first time in long time. LB room getting stacked..never gonna worry about DL..Secondary could use some good depth, but we start getting that, we are in reload mode every year.

Agree 100% about all of this. The Oline will be better than last year. Not worried about Safety either. We will be young back there but the defense will be fine as a unit. The only veteran Safety (Turrentine) lead the team in missed tackles with 12 last season. Hope that Farooq, Beasley, and others can beat him out for playing time unless he is much improved. Banks will have them ready to play though.

WR is scary. If we have injuries we will be screwed. The 7 guys we have ARE talented. All 7 were bluechips ranked top 300 nationally. WR is the least dependable position in football though...guys who were great in HS can't cut it it in FBS, just like guys who are monsters in college get drafted and do nothing in the NFL (like Hyatt). Its also a position, like Oline, where guys usually aren't ready to contribute until they've had a couple years in the weight room/practice. We only have 1 WR with that level of experience and he dropped too many balls last year himself in Brazzell. These kids are gonna have to grow up fast.

I will not be at all surprised to see heavy doses of 12 personnel again this year. Especially if any of our starting 3 WRs get hurt. We are loaded at TE and have 4 guys that are legit SEC guys. Several of them are also complete mismatches against LBs or Safeties...which is who covers the TE. We may end up leaning on these 2 TE sets while our WRs grow up a little bit. The passing game might struggle to start the season.

I dont understand how we continually have no depth at WR

Legitimate complaint. Has been an issue since CJH got here...and I love Coach Hype. All of our WR production has come from the portal except Hyatt and Keyton. All of it. Seriously. This staff has yet to recruit a WR and develop them into SEC starter talent. That has to change this season or we need to get rid of Pope...who has been an incredible recruiter the past 2 seasons. The 2025 and 26 WRs he has landed are monsters in HS. Just unstoppable athletes. He has to show that he can coach these guys into producers. Matthews and Staley need to produce THIS year. No excuses. They are both incredible HS athletes that UGA and Bama wanted etc. Matthews will start outside and Staley in the slot. Those guys need to produce this year or we will struggle mightily in the passing game and end up running 2 TEs most of the time IMO. Smith is a big 6ft4in kid that by all accounts was a standout in the spring. He will see playing time outside this year too. We are so thin that all these guys will see the field IMO. We are loaded at the Slot WR position and razor thin outside though which is a problem. After the 2 deep outside we are using walk-ons which is crazy in the SEC. We cleaned out the entire WR room though in the off season so it kinda is what it is. Time for Pope to sink or swim. I really hope he does well though, because the 3 WRs we have committed for 2026 are incredible and that room could be one of the best in the country in a year or 2. As long as we can retain our talent and not lose them to the portal anyway. This staff has done a really good job retaining the guys that they want though compared to other SEC schools IMO.

Sounds like you lifted my thoughts regarding our TE's being able to cover us in the event of injuries or depth issues at WR.
