Official Gramps' Memorial Eternal OT Thread

Said it better than I did and at the same time. Hope you are doing well bud. Good to see you around. Always.
doing good man, keeping my nose clean and out of trouble. Its a boring way of livin, but somebody's gotta do it

a huge chunk of our fanbase needs to grow up and realize we aint entitled to know the first damn thing about what goes on within the football team

i don't even know how it got this way. I remember when **** like this wasnt found out about til years later when everybody's sitting around laughing about the dumb **** and crazy **** they did back in the day

this weather stinks..need a summer home in Maine.
Speaking of, my dad is going to Maine to bear hunt this fall. He's 67, beaten lymphoma twice, and it's on his bucket list. He and mom are doing all the traveling they can while he's healthy because that crap can come back at any time.

@hog88 now that I’m wrenching on my truck and the extended warranty has expired I’ve been motivated to find quality aftermarket parts as many accessory OEM items are discontinued. I also found a company that does great work on painted steel bumpers. Bumper Man, they do national franchises. I can still get the important stuff from Ford like computers and what not, but on mine the key fragile items are the damn power accessories. Mainly the power folding mirrors. I know you have them too. Rock Auto and 1AAuto seems to have been able to source what I’ve needed thus far (new headlamp lenses, power folding mirrors, back up camera, etc..) and I’ve been able to cross by OEM part number too. I found a company that sources the leather dye and I’ve refreshed my seats also. After 13 years no tears but some wear and fading now fixed. I even updated the Ford Sync nav system software and bought new maps (final update was from 2019 for my truck but good enough).

So I’ve got a 13 year old Super Duty with only 88k miles on it that still looks great, drives great, and everything on it still works. Since it’s a Super Duty it will likely outlive me based on my driving at least from a driveline perspective. So as long as I can find quality aftermarket parts I’m probably never gonna buy another truck.

I saw a video recently and think it was a Ford, where they are using plastic oil pans and plugs. Cheap Cheap Cheap builds these days.

I’m sure they are. They’ve used plastic intakes for years was a problem on Mustangs with aftermarket superchargers. Being a Super Duty I might have a plastic intake, not sure, but the rest of the driveline is solid.

The state bird of Alaska (blood thirsty vicious horse flies) makes me not want to stay for more than a couple of weeks. I had multiple blood trails going down my legs at the same time from those vicious little bastards.
I spent a week there in June a few years back. Did not become fly food. My buddy who lives there wants me to make the trip again but I can’t swing it unless I quit the business. He is on the Kenai peninsula.

they have a 1.0L in Europe that puts out 150HP, which is incredible efficiency..unfortunately so e boob decided to use a wet timing belt, so it breaks down and chunks up the oil pickup and peole wreck their motors without any clue.,Just astounding brilliance and ineptitude atsame time.

What a very nice citizen to help this unknown person w/a hit and run.

Not gonna outrun a bike with a good rider. 400lb rocketship making 100-200hp. There are bone stock factory sportbikes now that make more than 200hp for ~20k. All the Japanese manufacturers make a 1000cc superbike with 180-200hp that weighs less than 450lbs. Even stock street legal 600cc Supersport bikes make 120hp these days. They are insanely fast and fun. I want another one badly but probably won't get one unless I get a cancer diagnosis etc.

Also...great job by the good samaritan taking time out of his day to do that, as well as turning over video of the accident. He saved that driver a bunch of $$$. If that car had bumped the biker instead it could have easily killed or maimed him.

So...I am getting laid off fellas. Looks like theyre gonna close the doors probably for good. Got a decent severance package though and my boss is gonna sell me one of the vans or trucks. He also spoke with our main lumber providers owner beforehand and has at least 1 lead for me for a Superintendent job for a smaller builder. Still trying to digest this and formulate a plan...i just got home from his house. Ive got plans with my daughter tonight too. So I have to be in ship shape in about 4 hours so that she has no idea. This situation isnt hers to worry about or even know about until I land another job if I can help it. Appreciate yall. Might not be back on today/night but I am OK and thankful for you guys.

What exactly do you do and where are you located?

I am in Charlotte NC (sadly) and for the last 15 years I have been a construction Superintendent. Primarily building apartment complexes but some smaller projects like retirement homes, hotels, etc. Before that I was a foreman for years running a crew and laying brick. My FIL ran a remodeling/renovation business and I always worked nights and weekends with him and was fortunate to be able to round out my skillset. I have a solid knowledge of all the applicable codes for residential and multifamily construction through all the trades, and I am used to supervising up to 100 men on a daily basis. A decade ago in the same predicament I would likely just go back to contracting and doing remodels, additions, etc with my own hands and a couple helpers. I am 48yo now though and looking to stay in a management position where I can make a living supervising others rather than doing the work myself. If you know of anything in my field or similar I would certainly welcome a lead/referral.

^^^ i just read that and hope I don't come across as proud or arrogant. Really don't like talking about myself but don't know how else to answeŕ that question. If I sound like a dick then I apologize bud.

I have very few contacts in NC. I have a ton in TN and OH. Do you have a GC license and bonded or were you operating under their license?

This may be a great time to break off onto your own if not. I can put you in contact with alot of jobs you could bid on.
