Great pic. Enjoy your time with him. It’s been 16 years and I still think about my dad every day. The one thing I would do different in my youth is take up golf sooner than I did. Outside of fishing it was the thing we connected on in later years and the activity he enjoyed most from his younger days.

Modern electronics overstuffed vehicles suck. My freaking truck has 15 control modules in it and it’s a 2012. The wife’s 2021 RX350 has 50. 50!

So the Body Control Module (read that as the computer that every damn switch or light in the damn truck touches, including antitheft) has a nuisance fault that disables all interior lighting. Until the last week I’d just clear the fault and the lights come back. This time there were two codes. The usual one and another one that basically says “Ok mf’er we will not let you just clear the fault again you’re gonna fix it this time”.

So this module is the one that also has PATS and the smart key storage. You can’t just change it, you have to use Ford IDS software to transfer the current module load into the new one and reprogram the keys.

It takes me 5 damn minutes to change the damn module but I can’t reprogram it. So I’ve got to get a repair shop that has Ford IDS. The one down the street wanted $2400 to do the job. $342 if that was diagnose (I’ve already done that you MF’ers…) and $1600 for the module.

I bought the OEM module online for $600 and found a lock smith an hour away with Ford IDS capability to transfer the data. They get $350 for 20 minutes work which is mostly waiting on the damn laptop. But… I have to have this capability and it’s better that $2400. So the new module is being delivered today, I’ve already prepped the truck for a pit stop computer swap out after they grab the data, and I’ve got a noon appt tomorrow to do the swap. All for about $1k. All because an overzealous damn nuisance fault.

I hate modern car electronics 🤬
