How are you coping with the new Arrangements?

Dad and I have both adjusted pretty well, as with most things Dementia related he has good moments and bad moments, but overall he’s doing okay. He is certainly much better off there with professional care than the care I alone was giving him. Thanks for asking! Knowing somebody gives a damn is a help itself.

I know you didn’t ask me but all the subs call me Marcos
Yep me too obviously. For so long now that I actually call myself Marcos when referring to myself in the 3rd person. I speak a lot more Spanish than English at work though so it kinda makes sense. I honestly wish I had shortened my name to Cus as a kid rather than Marc. Cus is way cooler IMO...

Trex is the way to go.
Actually I like the Tember Tech brand of composite decking.
I also like Zip tape better than trex tape….not that anyone cares

Zip tape is the greatest invention since motorcycles. Don't get me started. There is ALWAYS a roll in my vehicle and home. It is truly amazing. Zip tape can do all the things that women and idiots think duct tape can do....and then some. I am surprised the zip system hasn't replaced tyvek yet completely.

Im just a dumb old redneck, and you folks can call me a Luddite if you want...but social media, AI, and this feverish race to computerize everything will be the downfall of the West if not humanity in total.

Americans are dumber, lazier, and have the shortest attention spans of any time since the Industrial Revolution. I am reminded of one of my favorite jokes, which rings more true than ever:

Teacher to class " What's the greatest threat to our nation, ignorance or apathy?"

Student replies " I don't know, and I don't care."

I am aware that nearly every generation prior has looked at their surroundings as they got older, and thought the world was going to Hell in a handbasket. Many of them could at least point to advances around them in society. Increased life expectancies...better test scores and knowledge in core subjects...putting men in space and on the moon...splitting the atom or inventing electricity as we know it. In my 48 years of life these things have DECLINED in the US and continue to today. Life expectancy. Test scores. Literacy rates. All down. Divorce rates? Fatherless homes? Abortions? Mental illness and prescription drugs to treat them? All up...markedly.

My earliest years saw the advent of personal computers. I think most folks if trying to make a case for humans progress over the last 50 years would reference computers, the internet, social media etc. I am not sure that these have even been a net positive though. Sure, they have served to make us more comfortable. More lazy. Its quite convenient to get everything delivered to your home, and to ask Google any question. Has it actually improved humans though? Or harmed us? I can make a strong case for the latter. Where are all the diseases now cured with all this computational power? Can you name one? People are in worse shape than ever before...generally round is their shape. We finally mapped the entire human genome right? What diseases have we prevented with that knowledge? Are people healthier now than 50 years ago? I think not. Not in this country.

What exactly is A.I. supposed to do to improve humanity? Or just improve this country? What is the actual goal of artificial intelligence? To make people even lazier than now? How is that progress? I am not "Chicken Little". I am not screaming that "the sky is falling". I do have real sobering questions about the direction of our country and species though...and I feel there is solid, tangible evidence that we are in fact regressing in more ways than progressing over the course of my 48 years of life. I worry for my children and eventual grandchildren that we are handing them a worse world than we were given ourselves at birth.

I hope that I am wrong. That you folks can lay out a solid argument to the contrary with countless examples of actual progress that matters. That life in this country in another 20 or 40 years will be a safer, smarter, healthier and happier place than I have ever experienced. I am not sure that evidence or argument actually exists though in an honest discussion bound by logic, reason, and facts. I really want to be mistaken though...

you pulling a Butch Jones Year 0 on me? lol

lets use 10 as example..because it easier math..nah because that is his maturity level

at 5 years he is 1,825 days old
at 10 years he is 3,650 days old

At 1,826 days, ie 5 yrs and 1 day, is he closer to 3,650 or 0?

This is why nobody likes you

Test a spot somewhere out of site. If you go all in and it sucks nothing else will stick to it.

Just saying

my firm stays away from it.

two words: overdriven fasteners. and some absurdly low number will void their warranty. Its something dumb like if there are 3 overdriven fasteners on any panel, the warranty for the whole building is voided.

getting crews to correctly install the ZIP systems is impossible. any waterproofing system relies on the quality of the taping, and ZIP requires more of it than a tyvek does. when that wood sheathing moves it takes that tape with it, and you have holes, fish mouths, and just about everything that could go wrong happen. their warranty has more exclusions than any politician does. its not worth the paper its printed on.

there are issues even if you install it correctly. it traps moisture like no other. their warranty gets voided if a single panel every gets directly wetted at all. don't listen to their sales people, try dealing with one of their lawyers.

its only "waterproofed" from the one side, and its a perforated paper that is the "waterproofing". yup a perforated piece of paper is what you are supposed to trust. you have cuts you have an exposed edge that is not waterproof. corner joints, how many are actually mitered like their warranty details require. and yes their warranty details are different than their installation details. good luck getting your hands on those details, btw.

our firm designed a handful of projects with it, with supposedly qualified installers. within a year 2 had major problems, and a third had their whole facade come off less than 5 years after completion. every single issue the warranty didn't cover. the guys in our office, and all of the waterproofing consultants we have ever talked to have all said the same thing. ZIP/huber has never once honored their warranty.

the longevity of the product is a big question, its allegedly comparable to OSB, because that is what it is, but doesn't stack up to plywood. same on some of the strength qualities, especially if you do any of the insulated ZIP panels. because of the strength/longevity issue we have seen some cladding companies blacklist ZIP.

also their sales people are the shadiest people, really that whole company of Huber I loathe dealing with. they are the pushiest guys who will try to tell you whatever you want to hear to get the sales while straight up lying to your face.

note that "reasonably required of" is not "meets" or is "compliant" with those standards. no where in their literature to they claim to actually meet any of the waterproofing standards.

i would recommend you stay away.
