Official Gramps' Memorial Eternal OT Thread

Yeah I was impressed. It isnt magic...but its far more effective than a coat of regular paint. Also, when you caulk something and only apply 1 coat of regular paint, the caulk joint looks shiny through the paint and doesnt look good. This stuff is so thick that it covers caulk with no shine showing through. It fills in minor cracks too. I caulked the bigger cracks and filled the smaller cracks with the paint. I rolled everywhere that I could 1st with the longest nap rollers I could find at lowes...then cut in and back brushed the cracks between the decking boards from where they shrunk after building the deck. It wasn't that bad though...easier than removing all the decking boards and replacing them for sure. I did have to remove all those metal spindles though...2 screws top and 2 at the bottom of each. Those spindles are great though. If they had been wood I would have surely had to replace them after 12 or 13 years. Anyway, hope this helps. This product isnt magic, but it definitely turned out better than i thought it would. I caulked the butt-end joints where 1 board meets another also, it made the deck surface look much more uniform even though the joints were only about 1/8th inch. If it were my house and i was gonna have high traffic on it with people sliding chairs around etc, I would probably roll another coat on the floor. The 2nd coat would take far less product and be more resistant to scratching etc.
Very helpful. Thanks.

Wish I had taken a before picture of this deck. I built it in 2012 or 2013 at one of my boss' houses. He neglected it and never did anything to protect it from the weather. When i looked at it a couple weeks ago, i told him to just buy new decking boards and handrail and I would remove and replace them all. He wanted to try this Cabot Deck Correct stuff first because he is gonna sell the house. Its like really thick paint. So I caulked the worst cracks then applied 1 coat plus touch up. It looks really good compared to what it looked like before. It looked like a deck with zero shade/trees around it that was abused for 12 or 13 years. Anyway heres a couple pics...

Marcus which type did you use exactly, there are quite a few to choose from? I am in a similar situation. How many gallons did the decking take?

Arbor coat by Benjamin Moore

Hands down the best on the market and it’s not close.

I will defer to Slice on this...he has used both brands and i have not. Benjamin Moore is expensive but they make good products and its usually worth the money. Cheaper to do things right than to do them over in a couple years.

Looks like some of his are interior, the deck I did was just pressure washed with deck cleaner from Lowes then i left it to bake in the sun for a couple days to make sure i didnt trap any moisture in the wood.
