Official Gramps' Memorial Eternal OT Thread

That's a good one. I remember it. Did I tell you about the time I pissed shoulder to shoulder with Jerry Clower in the urinal trough at the SEC basketball tournament in 1979? He had on a maroon leisure suit (Mississippi State colors) and a string tie.
You mentioned once briefly but that was about it.
Jerry was a very good man. I grew up listening to him

He had the whole place laughing. I walked in beside him when it wasn't full, but there were 2 empty slots at the trough. In a minute, a bunch of people came in (it was halftime), and somebody got him talking. I didn't say anything to him. He was still entertaining when I walked out.

I have a friend who just moved to East Tenn from New York state, and he swears that both he and his wife have seen a large cat on their property ( not at the same time). They said the front legs were thick, it had a real long tail, and a head the size of a small bowling ball. They bought a piece of heavily overgrown property with a rundown house, near the river and the mountains, that nobody had lived in for the last 10-12 years.

There are bobcats (mountain lions) etc all throughout NC and Tennessee. From Memphis all the way to the SC coast. The state usually denies that they are in most counties, but that is a lie. They get cought on deer cameras from the Mississippi all the way to the coast. I think they lie about it because of how dangerous they are. A 50lb cat will kill the toughest 100lb dog every single time. I hate cats, but as far as predators go, they are pound for pound at the top of the heap. Balance, agility, speed, jumping ability, killer instinct...they outclass everything except maybe a honeybadger.

This thing apparently was big, dark( maybe black ) and had a long tail. Not a Bobcat.

Some call them pumas, but those have been caught on film, too. Mountain lions also, which i believe are the same thing but not black, and Bobcats are smaller cats in the 40 to 50 lb range. Every time one is seen, the local authorities say "no species like that exists around here..." but somebody lost a pair of 80 or 100lb Huskies, or a couple cows etc, and feline paw prints are there. I have seen footage from deer cams from this side of the mountain (where your house is) and i have also seen feline tracks so big that the cat had to be 100lbs or more. There is plenty of stuff on the web, just not from uncle sam. I would rather see bear tracks, or i guess just about anything on my property except a big cat. So dangerous

My dad still has a working8 track player, and old 8 track tapes of Jerry. At least it worked several years ago, he was listening to them.

I wouldn't mind getting a replica for recreational use, but I'd be willing to throw in the necessary cheddar to have an antique to mount on my mantle. They really are one of the most beautiful thundersticks ever made.
I would suggest original over reproduction but I would also be mindful of the prices. I think in the near term you will see either flat or lower prices for antique firearms. The people who collect cowboy guns (and lots of vintage guns really) aren’t getting any younger and I don’t see younger guys interested. As the boomers start expiring there are going to be massive collections for sale and I don’t think the remaining boomers will be able to buy them all to maintain prices. I think a similar thing is going to happen with classic cars too. The guys buying today probably rode in those cars as a kid or coveted one and they can finally afford it in their 60’s. I don’t see who is going to be buying them long term.

Pretty excited that we are finally getting some good seafood places here (don't count red lobster and landry's as good seafood places). We are getting a Krab Hut and a Pier 88 this month

As someone who owns both too many firearms and old cars, I unfortunately agree. I have strongly considered cashing in both, but I hate too.

So I am on this facebook group that's about camping and ****.....gotten some really good help and info from it. Anyway, this is the time of year people post pictures of their trailers and stuff and blah blah blah about camping season. Well this one chick posted a picture of their trailer and what was pulling it. It was a 30ft Ultra Lite that still weighs 6500 lbs and pulling it with a ****ing chevy equinox with the post "We love this trailer and love how our Equinox can tow it". Towing capacity of a Equinox........3500 pounds lol. ****ing clowns

I was just at the local Tasty Hate Chicken grabbing breakfast and listening to the crew going back and forth with friendly banter during a serious rush as I'm waiting on my order. One of the managers (maybe?) reminds one of the female crew about a certain item on an order. The younger female says "don't tell me my business, devil woman!"

I chuckled since I got the reference and they were obviously friends. But then I got sad since it's very likely neither of them were alive when that movie came out...

People have no understanding that unless you’re towing in the mountains getting the trailer moving and keeping it moving isn’t the problem. It’s stopping the trailer quickly and in a controlled fashion.

And in the mountains this is even more of a concern but at least it’s harder to get it moving. But once you start downhill... 😳
